More than a sign of the upcoming STAR alliance membership and the need to rid itself of some of the present codeshare partners, it is also proof LH is giving SN the means it need to succeed in the market and is bringing the much needed focus on high-yielding business routes!

SN is definitely moving away from the obsession to fly as much passengers as possible to low yielding tourist destinations at the costa's!

BTW- SN 3150 is the same flight number as back in the days when Sabena operated the route (3 times daily that was).

I wonder if Brussels Airlines will simultaneously also drop a frequency on MXP, or will remain with the current 5 flights a day?

Will this aircraft used always or will this depend on the amount of pax on the route?

An RJ is more than enough to serve this route, as it is clearly aimed at business pax going to the centre of Milan. I think you'll find that tickets on the route will be sold at a premium compared to MXP, so there won't be scores of pax with 99euro tickets going to LIN, you can be sure of that!

Too bad the morning flight is leaving BRU quite late though, as it does not allow to conduct any business in the moring in Milan and even makes a daytrip very tight, but apparently SN has applied for a slot modification, so the flight might still be brought forward (around 7 AM), which would be a good thing as that would provide head on competition to AZ and would make the flight ideal for a business daytrip to the city of Milan.

In parallel (and thus answering my own question from above), it seems MXP will remain served 5 times a day, so that means SN will serve Milan 7 times daily (on weekdays), all codeshared with LH Italia.

In Sabena times I flew the route tens of times with all types of Boeing 737: -200, -300, -400 and -500. And indeed the flights were always packed to capacity.

Yeah, those were the days when the A320, 737 and AVRO RJs all served both LIN as well as MXP, depending the time of the day. LIN was served 3 times daily, whereas MXP was served 4 times a day during weekdays.

Who knows, maybe if they can get their hand on an earlier slot in the moring, we may see an A319 operate this new route, but otherwise I wouldn't think there's an urgent need to go beyond an RJ on a regular basis?

Obviously, a lot will depend on the average ticket price though, because LIN is undoubtably more convenient than MXP for most of the SN pax heading to Milan, yet here I have a strong feeling tickets to LIN will be more expensive than to MXP....

In the end, SN probably hasn't been given 2 very precious LIN slots just to make it more convenient for their pax to head out to downtown Milan, but because they think they can ask more money from them by operating to this city airport too, rather than from serving just MXP, so a premium will have to be paid, which will likely put off most VFR traffic on the route.

Again, it would be interesting to see where those slots come from....

They are negotiating about a earlier slot, so they can operate in the morning. This would be perfect for a bussines trip for one day to Milan. I hope they will get this slot.

You can book a b-bussines ticket for around the 1200 euro's, taxes included. Or a absolutly cheap ticket for only 97 euro's in the cheapest class/ticket.

Transavia.com is going to fly a whole new destination to BRU: it will be Kuusamo in Finland. This will be a charter destination and will be flown from January till March. The number of flights is at this moment unknown.

EFF 19NOV09, AA will no longer operate JFK-BRU. It will instead operate JFK-LHR-BRU, thus using BRU as a tag-on. Plane type is not known at the moment; whether it will be the 757 or the 777 of JFK-LHR is not sure.

AA is still selling its tickets as a direct flight after 19 Nov.

It seems to be news on Airliners.net
http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forum ... n/4533877/

It seems that it's done to keep a slot in LHR... Just like UA will do... But unline UA they'll remove a non stop flight from BRU.

But in the bookingengines the non stop flight is still loaded.

The flight BOS-BRU is being sold as AA108 (same as the LHR leg) and mentions a technical stop.

Are you sure about the BOS flight? It mentions indeed AA108 to LHR but the second leg is operated by BA with an A319.

There is an option on aa.com which gives you a travel time of 10h20. Take that one, not the 10h45. You will see it mentions a direct BOS-BRU flight, however with a "technical stop". There is no London in the itinerary, simply AA108 BOS-BRU.

Could this eventually be AA expanding it's codeshare with 9W from the latters BRU hub? I can imagine there is a market for India - Boston flights.

But sadly enough all but one (ATL) to roughly the same region (N-E USA). Besides, I wonder for how long we'll see five flights to the NYC region (CO, 9W (x2), DL, AA). This can't be good for yields.

In the topic: "Long haul plans at Brussels Airport by 2011" I gave, on 2 November 2008, a short list of possible new destinations. Boston by American Airlines was the first one. It was American Airlines intention to start a small hub at Brussels Airport. We are now 10 months further and we saw in meantime that Jet airways has the intention to work together with American Airlines. Will they feed each other flights?

Destination - Airline
Boston American Airlines (small hub)

We will see because there is at this moment no official press release about this and its still a flight with a technical stop.
