SN3811 - Brussels-Porto - has strange notices on Brussels Airport's website : BRU mentions already two departures, and now the flight is expected back in BRU about now.

Any idea what's happening with the RJ for OPO ?

Plane should have been OO-DWB (callsign Beeline 8 whiskey) according to ACARS logs.

Was OO-VAC, if I'm not mistaken.

Any idea what happened with JAF3147 yesterday ?

A son of my collegae (10 years old) refused to go aboard again for the second take off (so the whole family misses their holiday in Rhodos :( ).

Although he's passionate about aircraft and helicopters he seems to have taken fear for flight. I'm trying to cool him down and for this I would like to find out what was the small technical problem the crew announced. Being a pilot myself I appreciate the professional attitude of pilots taking the difficult decision to return in favor of flight safety, but it's not easy to convince a 10-year-old boy of this.

Any suggestions ?

Heikki

Non-official schedule (noted from Brussels Airport's website):

17h00 : expected departure
17h11 : actual first departure
18h08 : expected return in BRU
19h41 : actual return in BRU
21h10 : expected time for second departure
21h26 : actual second departure

There was at least 1,5 hours between the announcement of the technical problem and the landing in Brussels. A 10-year old child who has been told that something is wrong with his plane expects it to land within minutes - unless he understands about landing speed, weight, overweight, fuel dumping etc.

Aircraft is indeed grounded in Dakar.

The Flemish newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws quote Geert Sciot (Brussels Airlines): "parts and engineers are expectyed to arrive in Dakar this afternoon. They'll need some 2 hours to repair the plane, so we expect it to leave Dakar tonight".

Today's CO-61 from Brussels to Newark will reach its destination with a delay of some 5 hours. The 767-400 had to divert to Shannon (Ireland) for a medical emergency.

This afternoon while driving home I was listening to RTBF radio, which announced at 15:00 that indeed the plane is grounded in Dakar with technical problems and 200 pax are stranded. Most local pax returned home for the night and the others were accommodated in hotels. Parts and technicians are on their way to Dakar and the plane should be able to leave tonight with 24 hrs delay.

There will be two incoming flights from Dakar on Friday: SN204 at 05h30 and SN1206 at 10h30.

The 1206 is probably the delayed one.

For the Thomas Cook flight, see this thread.

The JAF flight to Athens and Thessaloniki eventually departed at 14:53, i.e. with a 9 hrs delay. Reason still unknown.

A Jetairfly Boeing 737-800, registration OO-VAC performing flight TB-5773 from Brussels (Belgium) to Thessaloniki (Greece), was enroute at FL350 near Stuttgart, when the crew decided to turn around and return to Brussels, where the airplane landed safely about 80 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration OO-VAS resumed the flight departing Brussels with a delay of 9 hours.

The airline confirmed the incident stating without further details, that the airplane returned due to a technical issue. The airline confirmed, it was the same plane as two days earlier but did not want to say even, whether it was the same issue, see Incident: Jetairfly B738 near Salzburg on Aug 12th 2009, technical problem. The airplane had flown several legs on Aug 13th between the two incident flights.

Meanwhile, there seems to rest a curse on JAF flight 5147 to Rhodes, as the plane which was supposed to fly there today... returned to Brussels. It departed at 17.20 LT (ETD 17.15) and was back at the gate at 18.24. The new ETD is set for 22.00. And believe it or not, it was OO-VAC (according to ACARS logs).

And that's not all, the flight JAF5477 to Heraklion was operated by an A310, the Blue Line F-HBOY.
