As I am flying out tomorrow lunchtime.. any chance I will see it before I go ?
No chance.

I leave it up to the CargoB people to reveal the delivery date at BRU, but I understand that this will not happen tomorrow.

Cargo B is going to receive their first, new, B744F on Wednesday 17th December. The aircraft is going to fly direct from Seattle to Brussels Airport. The aircraft is going to fly some charters this month and start scheduled cargo flights at the beginning of 2009 to South America. The second one is coming.

It seems that the 2nd last -400 ever build will also go to CargoB. If true then CargoB will be operating 3 Boeing B747-400ERF's including LN1418, the 2nd last -400 made.

I think you got some wrong info somewhere, Cargo B does not fly with B747-400ERF but with 747-400F.
The picture you showed of OO-CBD is JAKZ10 or LN1418. which is the 2nd last 747-400 ever build. ;)

You are right about the plane. LN1418 is indeed OO-CBD which is the 2nd last 744 build. OO-CBC was LN1411 and was delivered a while ago.

But I don't know about the ER non ER thing.

Sometimes the plane is mentioned as a Boeing 747-4KZF/ER/SCD otherwise as a Boeing 747-4KZF/SCD

But you are probably right. To bad the Belgian aircraft register doesn't give to much details

2 shiny new B744F's + a spare B742F... that's an awsome job of the CargoB management.
Using shiny new equipment is the best way to gain maximum efficiency and profitability.

I hope that they get to grow their business until someday we see a line of B748F's/B777F's/A330F's parked at Brucargo...

Maybe they can start flying on schedule from the second week of may onwards, if the plane gets to arrive at BRU by then. Would be the first CargoB a/c to arrive at BRU on time after delivery. Lets hope.

is it that much cheaper to run a -400 instead of a -200 ?
They have a -200 still parked in LGG I believe

The difference is big between a -200 and -400. Cargo B will feel in their pocket. The -400 is more fuel efficient and more reliable.

Also important is the pollution and noise. Brussels Airport is going to forbid certain types of a/c on the airport and this during a period of the day/night. The B742F is one of them. This is also a reason why Africa West Cargo (three weekly cargo flights to Lomé) is going to replace the B742F by a B744F to BRU.

Another difference in favor of the -400 series is the increased range compared to the -200.
Less fuel/technical stops, which gives them the opportunity to have more non-stop flights into South-America. (depending of the payload??). The result is less cycles and crew houres and saves money. Flight engineers are no longer needed in this 2-man flight crew.
