Nice to see TK expanding to the US. ;)

BTW, when are there own B777's due to arrive? Because it seems they are expanding the planned amount of B777 routes.

* THY and US Airways have entered code share agreement which is already taken place.

* THY is increasing some flight frequencies:

- Istanbul Ataturk-Singapore-Jakarta flights from 5 to 6 times per week effective 8.January.2011.

- Istanbul Ataturk-Sao Paulo flights from 3 to 4 times per week effective 25.January.2011.

- Istanbul-Seoul flights from 5 to 6 times per week effective 5.January.2011.

Mr._Boeing to answer your question THY's own owned B777s will start joining the fleet from September onwards. Some A330s will join too, of course.

Forgot to add.THY's GM Mr.Kotil has mentioned that Atlanta will be added to Washington flights. It will be as Istanbul Ataturk-Washington-Atlanta. (per Skylife magazine). :D

THY's GM Temel Kotil has given an interview to ATW Online. Here are some info about their intentions for the next 2 years including the new destinations and aircraft choices:

THY is considering Detroit, Mexico City, Boston, Miami, Montreal, Houston and Buenos Aires. Other possibilities include Ulan Bator, Kuala Lumpur, Calcutta, Hyderabad, Wellington and Sydney. "In the case of Sydney, this route launch could be next year or 2012," Mr.Kotil said.
He added "THY also see opportunities in Africa such as Oran, Kinshasa and Zanzibar".

Turkish flies a fleet of 147 aircraft with an average age of 6.2 yr. and has 90 more on order. The widebody fleet will grow from 20 today to 40 by next summer, Mr.Kotil said. He expects to make a choice on the 787 or A350 "early next year."

great to hear of THY expansion, but I have the feeling it is RAPID. How is it being funded? and does the airline
have the infrastructure and capacity to maintain this expansion?

Despite some recent mishaps with Turkish, if I would have to choose between Biman and Turkish to travel to Dhaka, I wouldn't doubt to take Turkish. The other option is in fact no option.
The difference between Biman and Turkish is that the latter really expands, buys airplanes, does fly, commits to its obligations. Biman on the other hand announces already for years that they will buy new long haul airplanes ( but they lease old 777 and still use the DC-10 http://www.airliners.net/photo/Biman-Ba ... 05be6fb47c) , improve service ( but it is still bad as 15 years ago ) , expand the network ( but it decreases )

What Turkish its expansion concerns, you are certainly not the first one who lifts his eyebrows. If we compare it with the sudden rise of Emirates, there are major differences. The Turkish diaspora is much larger. Turkey itself has much more inhabitants and a single market. The country is regarded as a local powerhouse ( also economically ) . It has real tourism. ( who wants to stay at a beach at Dubai with the risk to be arrested ? 8-) ). It is also centrally located on the route between Europe and Asia and Australia. And you have more legroom on their airplanes : 9 in the B777 of Turkish and 10 with Emirates.
If it is viable in long term, we will see in the future. I am sure that IF Turkeye would join the EU, that there will be many changes at Turkish Airlines.
