Re: News from THY - Turkish Airlines
Rwandan-flyer there are several reasons for delaying these destinations: ebola scare, bureaucracy, fleet availability, time slot availability to connect these flights to IST base and beyond. They will be eventually started. THY pays special attention to Africa. Very important for them.rwandan-flyer wrote:Hi
What's happened about Luanda, Bamako and Conakry ? TK dropped them from GDS some weeks ago.
TK has started code share service with Singapore Airlines on some West African routes : Ouagadougou, Nouakchott, Dakar, Accra, Abidjan and Cotonou.
Re: News from THY - Turkish Airlines
THY told the media that they have decided to order 4 new A330-200F model cargo planes from Airbus to be delivered in April 2015, April 2016, October 2016 and January 2017.

THY is leasing 2 of A330-300 and 3 of A330-200 for 8 years. It is understood that the both A333 were for Libyan Afriqiyah Airlines, but the company couldn't take the aircraft from Airbus due to political instability in Libya.

Looks like "sky's the limit" for TK.
(though the lower limit is harder, .... on landing )
They currently fly daily IST-JNB-CPT-JNB-IST as TK40/41.
They will simply double this route as from W15 then. Dailies to both CPT and JNB, with three times a week a JNB-MPM-JNB.
Amazing growth. Just hope they will keep up with additional crew training and Mx.

I am surprised everybody has missed the statement about the new Russian destination on THY's statement last week?:
The Incorporation has decided to start operating scheduled flights, based on fleet availability, to Makhachkala of Russia .

Re: News from THY - Turkish Airlines
Don't be surprised, Hakan. The new destination is unknown to most of us and probably in the middle of nowhere.

Re: News from THY - Turkish Airlines
There are some news in today's Turkish media that THY is about to buy 49% of TAROM very soon. Has anybody heard anything like that or read somewhere in other media outlets?
Thanks
Hakan
Thanks

Re: News from THY - Turkish Airlines
Tarom is looking for an investor, some weeks ago it was also said that there were talks with Qatar Airways and they would talk with other Gulf carriers. Apparently also TK. I really hope TK goes through with it and not a Gulf carrier again.. TK would make more sense anyway for Tarom in my opinion.
Re: News from THY - Turkish Airlines
THY has made the following statement:
There are some news in the media that The Incorporation is planning to acquire 49 percent of Romanian national airline TAROM's shares. We would like to announce that, at the present time, there is no Board of Directors decision taken regarding an acquisition as stated in the news.
They are not denying being in talks with TAROM.
Greets,
Hakan
