JULY
MOVEMENTS
In July there were 23.171 movements on Brussels Airport. This is a decrease with 2,02% when we compare this with the same month of last year.
Reasons: Lufthansa strikes. Lufthansa is the second biggest operator on the airport. They have a big influence on the movements part.
Cargo B: one aircraft went into maintenance.
Last year we had flights of BMI (Aberdeen), Northwest (Detroit) and Albanian Airlines (Tirana). Those are stopped in meantime.
The move of DHL to Leipzig and the move of Ethiopian Cargo to LGG.

AUGUST
PAX
In August, Brussels Airport received 1.827.000 pax or an increase with 1,6% when we compare this with the same month last year. Some occurrence will explain why this figure is lower then other months:
Aviapartner & Flightcare: wild cat strike of 48h. Less then 100.000 pax were hit directly by this.
Lufthansa strike: during July and August several flights were cancelled. As second biggest user of Brussels Airport, it has his consequences.
Intra-EU: 1.100.000: -3,7%
Extra-EU: 727.000: +10,7%

AUGUST
MOVEMENTS
In August there were 20.691 movements on Brussels Airport or a decrease with 7,76% when we compare this with the same month last year.
Reason? Last year in August we had daily flights of NW till the second half of August, three flights a week of Albanian Airlines, DHL was still present, and less current flights this summer.

could you post an overview of the figures for the beginning of the year aswell? Would be interesting to spot the evolution.
Re: Brussels Airport: monthly figures 2008
AUGUST
CARGO
Brussels Airport handled in August 46.600 ton of cargo or a decrease of 25,4% when we compare this with the same month last year.
full freighter: 24.900 ton: -4,7%
Integrator: 13.100 ton: -55,5%
Pax flights: 8.600 ton: +24,5%
Reason: as we know the partial move of DHL, Cargo B was flying with only one freighter and the many cancellations during this month of freighters -> high full, maintenance and lack of crews (Cathay).
PS: high full -> instead of flying with f.e. a 50% load the flights were cancelled.
I didn't gave figures about cargo during July. Here are the results.
July: total ton: 45.700 or a decrease with 29,1% when we compare this with the same month last year.
full freighter: 23.400 ton: -11,4%
integrator: 13.500 ton: -57,6%
pax flights: 8.800 ton: +41,8%
Reasons: the same as above: many cancellations. We will see the same for September, but those are - as per today - better then the past two months.
PS2: Cathay Cargo will fly back at 100% to Brussels Airport after difficult months with high fuel prices and lack of crews. More flights will follow in the second part of 2009. Cathay Cargo will fly with B747-400 to Brussels instead of B747-200.

SEPTEMBER
PAX
In September, Brussels Airport welcomed 1.765.000 pax or a marginal increase of 0,1% when we compare this with the same month of last year.
Intra-EU: 1.181.000 pax: -3,3%: less flight to Italy, Spain and Germany
Extra-EU: 584.000 pax: +7,8%: mainly due to the USA and India and now also additional flights to North Africa.
MOVEMENTS
In September there were 23.183 movements on the airport or a decrease with 2,37% when we compare this with the same month of last year.
Reasons: partly movement of DHL, less full freighter flights, etc.

full freighter: 26.400 ton: -1%

Reasons for this decrease: on number one: the partly movement of DHL. Secondairy, less cargo flights of Cargo B, Royal Jordanian, the full movement of Ethiopian Cargo, Cathay Pacific.

OCTOBER
CARGO
In October, Brussels Airport handled 50.000 ton cargo. This is a decrease with 29,1% when we compare this with the same month last year. The partly move of DHL to Leipzig caused this figure.
Full Freighter: 26.200 ton: -4,9%
Integrator: 14.500 ton: -57,1%
Pax: 9.300 ton: +1,3%
When we compare those figures with the other European cargo airports, then we can conclude that if DHL was still flying at Brussels Airport, the figures were still black. Second conclusion: Brussels Airport don't loose that many cargo when we compare this with other airports.

NOVEMBER
MOVEMENTS
Brussels airport registered 18.958 movements or a decrease of -15.09% when we compare this with the same month last year.
We could read a lot of articles lately in the newspapers these days about this subject but they forgot to mention that we can see the same situation, or even worst, at our regional airports.
Situation there generaly: IFR: -4.55%
VFR: -21.15%
PS: there is in meantime a rumour, on the site www.express.be, that Jet airways will move its operations from Brussels Airport to CRL due to the juridical circumstances. Let me alow to say that this is impossible. 9W is working together with SN on its European Routes and SN is working together with 9W to India and the US. The CEO of SN confirmed months ago NOT to move some ops to CRL due to the high costs, code share agreements, etc.

Re: Brussels Airport: monthly figures 2008
Well, as long as we don't see a drop in passenger traffic, there is not problem in my opinion... It only means companies are offering less connections with bigger equipment and higher load factors.Atlantis wrote:NOVEMBER

If the loss of movements of DHL is counted in as well, this is another reason for the decrease.
