In the newspaper today, there is an advertisement issued by the Sowaer (Société Wallonne des aéroports), giving notice that an administrative procedure is on stream, with a view to lenghten the runway of CRL.
650 m will be added to the east end of the runway, stretching it from 2550 m to 3200 m.
A public information meeting will be organised at 19 h on wednesday 24 october , at the Point Centre, Aéropôle, Avenue Lemaître, 19 , 6041 Gosselies.

what about the fog ?
I'm very surprised a lot of airlines are planning to go to CRL, they are maybe not aware that during the automn and winter, their flights will be diverted every day there is fog...
Last WE, today for instance, all flights are diverted (to Liège, I assume). That means thousands of passengers who just made it to the airport for nothing, they will be reallocated to other flights other days, with possible fog always...
I don't understand CRL does not give top priority to an efficient CAT 2/3 ILS. This would solve a lot of problems.

Re: what about the fog ?
It will be operational hopefully for the winter 2008-2009...stefanel wrote: I don't understand CRL does not give top priority to an efficient CAT 2/3 ILS. This would solve a lot of problems.
In the meantime ...

They would be stupid to organize a CATIII ILS before the new runway.stefanel wrote:I'm very surprised a lot of airlines are planning to go to CRL, they are maybe not aware that during the automn and winter, their flights will be diverted every day there is fog...

I think you don't realize what this involves.
It seems that the flights of Private Wings to Ingolstadt have already started :

Takeoff at 5 pm but the gate is closed ? It won't be commercial flights ?

Well, I don't know if and when Ryanair is going to announce further expansion from CRL (will it be anytime soon?), but what strikes me is the extreme asymmetry in the network development from the airport:

Last week, BSCA (Brussels South Charleroi Airport) has hired its 300th employee; there should be some 320 of them in time for the opening of the new terminal, next January, according to the BSCA spokesman, Pierre Fernémont.
In 2000, they were still only 51.
An airport "job day" will be held at Charleroi Expo, 20 october, from 10 to 16 h.
