SN adding medium haul aircrafts

Brussels Airlines will be adding 3 aircrafts to their medium haul fleet. Choice will be between 320 and 737.

Yeah A320/A321 would be nice!! but for what routes are they gonna use them?

Some Avro's are leaving for Africa, is it to compensate this shift?

yes they're to compensate but appearantly they'll need more capacity as well. Maybe some new routes in 2008? Wasn't BEY operated by a 320? And wasn't this a very good route financially? Will they not be the only airline to operate BEY from BRU then?

Bey is pure VFR market,overbooked in summer almost empty the rest of the year....not esay though to make some profit on that route...but a good tip for Bru air...open bru/yul and you will get a lot of demand to BEY...mea is awaiting for years to serve YUL ,but is was denied for security reasons,and ther is a very large christian lebanese community up there (more than 120.000)living in the montreal area...they are also interested by abidjan,and FIH

Beirut is still served by Syrian Airlines on Wednesdays using their Airbus A320. (I think that Beirut was also linked to Brussels by MEA in the mid-90's. MEA often used their ex-KLM Airbus A310)

Everytime I flew to Beyrut with Sabena, it was a 737. By the way, the Sabena Station Manager in Beyrut was really first class and had 'service' on the radar

Sorry wasn't aware they were flying from BEY to BRU, just had a look on Amadeus. it's twice weekly, days 3 and 6.

Wow fleet expansion on both networks (Europe and Africa). I think the management at B.air is getting out of their 'wintersleep''.

It's purely subjective but I prefer the 737 family over the A320 family

Well, you see, different people have different views. Absolutely nomal.
In terms of passenger comfort I find the A320 family aircraft superior to the 737's.

the SN bey flight was operated from may 1997 up till oct 2001.. it started as 3/week 737 (-2-4-6-)but was later operated by 320.. five frequencies in the summer and 3 in winter.. I took that flight over 20 times almost always booked with pax transferring on the SN African routes. flights departed bru at 22:00 arrived at bey around 03:00 departed bey at 04:00 arrived at bru at 07:00.. was excellent, cheapest fares were BEF 12.000 tax inc. and indeed their station manager in BEY was GREAT. I hope they will reconsider the route...MEA operated to BRU for close to 40 years, ending april 1997.. was indeed 2 frequencies a week (--3---7) flight made a stop over in GVA, but aircraft flew almost empty from GVA to BRU.. they axed BRU but MEA enjoys excellent LF on their GVA run.

Maybe off topic what I will say but I think b.air should first paint the 2 A319 left before adding other Airbus; If they will choose Airbus ?

Hi AirDupont : just like peacemaker, I would like to ask what is your source for this info. To me there is no logic for b.air acquiring new medium haul aircraft when they have a pilot shortage and have to wet lease aircraft. But maybe I missed something.

It didn't took long before the first anti-Brussels Airlines management post appeared.

(trust somebody will now advise management which 737 they have to buy...)

It was already said in the press release from 31 March 2006 (merger SN and Virgin) that they would expand their fleet on midhaul and longhaul.

Midhaul: adding 3 aircrafts
Longhaul: 4th A330 in use now, looking for a 5th one.

I heard some rumours about two medium haul aircrafts already one month ago but was unsure to mention it on the forum to avoid the good old bru air bashers. Good news they will add 3 planes and a nice motivation for pilots....

For our negativists: I had a chance to sit next to a bru air manager on yesterday's flight to Madrid, be sure they are aware of problems. By the way, he came back from a meeting with a bunch of european carriers and guess what, they all have pilot shortage!!!! They are seeking a european solutiion for it.
