Due to the ever growing pilot shortage and subsequent huge operational problems at Brussels Airlines, the airline has decided to expand on their original idea to lease a single BAe146 to cope with capacity shortfalls and that as of 17 September, an MD-83 of Flightline with a capacity of 170 pax will be wetleased indefinitely.
The leased aircraft will in a first stage be used on flights to Lyon, Manchester and Prague and will be operated by Flightline cockpit and cabin crew, with one Brussels Airlines cabin crew attendant present on each of the flights for commercial reasons.
Below is an overview of the frequencies planned on the Flightline MD83:

Commercial reasons = sell b.light meals and explain to b.flex passengers why they only get 15 gr. of cold pasta with 3 peas and no champagne ?tolipanebas wrote: The leased aircraft will in a first stage be used on flights to Lyon, Manchester and Prague and will be operated by Flightline cockpit and cabin crew, with one Brussels Airlines cabin crew attendant present on each of the flights for commercial reasons.

Commercial reasons = to supervise if the airline operating on behalf of Brussels Airlines complies with Brussels Airlines vision.
To make sure they offer in-flight service according to Brussels Airlines rules en to give the passengers the feeling that they are still flying Brussels Airlines, even if the aircraft is actually owned and operated by a third party.
Concerning the meals...this is the concept of Brussels Airlines and low fare airlines in general...
It has nothing to do with a flight attendant...

If it goes on like this, we are about to see quite a few unusual planes at BRU - excellent for spotters.tolipanebas wrote:Due to the ever growing pilot shortage and subsequent huge operational problems at Brussels Airlines, the airline has decided to expand on their original idea to lease a single BAe146 to cope with capacity shortfalls and that as of 17 September, an MD-83 of Flightline with a capacity of 170 pax will be wetleased indefinitely.
But is that a sound commercial solution for Brussels Airlines, in the long run ?

Thank you. Some of you might remember that one Sabena flight attendant was available on flights between Brussels and Atlanta -codeshare and operated by Delta. Also 'commercial reason' was the explanation but it did not last long...not much too do where you are not the same crew and your role becomes the one of a translator. As it is not code share, the role might be the one of a facilitator - therefore I use the words 'sell' and 'explain'.Captain Remi wrote:Commercial reasons = to supervise if the airline operating on behalf of Brussels Airlines complies with Brussels Airlines vision.

This comforts my idea that Bru.air is becoming more and more a travel agency than an airline.
See the numbers of codeshares on Long Haul flights compared with the ones flown by b.air.
Plus all the rerouting on other airlines required in the last months due to A330 failures.
Now some wet leases...
What's next?
