Air India to join Star Alliance

While it all sounds exciting, there are many setbacks involved in joining such a massive alliance. I for one would say Air India's best way to joining the leading airlines of the world is to go alone. It still doesn't have premium class services that can match the likes of Lufthansa, SIA and Swiss and at the end of the day, alliances are mostly about business travellers. India is a vast market with huge growth potential and Air India is best positioned to take advantage of it already. Maybe developing hubs in Europe and far east or even america like Jet Airways would be a good idea.
From Star Alliance's point of view though, it would be a great. Current members would have further access to Indian's domestic network.

What are your thoughts? Would Air India really benefit from induction into Star Alliance?

Since most airlines are joining an alliance, there must be some things that make it worth wile.

After all, just because they did something good doesn't mean AI is EK (by far).

I'm sure their service is as good as US Airways and Star Alliance hasn't kicked us out yet. ;)
