A380 will NOT come to Brussels on 26 June

Post by Atlantis »

I saw today, in the latest news part of this site, that an A380 will come to BRU for a very short visit. Only an arrival and immediately a depart.

Someone with more information about the time and the reason for this visit?

If this is true it would be wonderful to see this giant at our airport.

I am also very curious to have more information. If this were to happen and I would know the time then I will try and find a colleague who is in a very high office building to see the flight above Brussels!

How can they know that? That depends on the winds of that day!

And I'm not sure if the runways can already handle such a beast!

Well YOU may not be sure, but I have every confidence the aircraft operator did make sure before planning the flight... Or do you think they are going to call in some concrete lorries in a hurry?

An empty A380 weighs half as much as a fully loaded 744, and the number of wheels is greater, so the pressure on the ground or the tons per square meter are less.

Would be great to see this bird here!!

Pretty logical and more that obvious that Airbus knows whether the RWY's can handle the monster or not...

The 25L/25R thing is quite strange though... indeed.

If it really lands on 25L, people, keep your camera's ready ;-)

My theory:Arrival 25L for noise abatement and Departure 25R for the longer runway.
Maybe it is to check whether BRU is suitable as an alternate airport?
Maybe for ATC-check & procedures, to see how it behaves?
Maybe a commercial reason?

Anyone's got any answers?

Cool ! I just had my next trip to EBBR planned on that day. IF she comes, it would be a nice surprise ! I just hope it will be another one than C/N 001, 007 or 009. Let's all hope for nice weather.

Why are the 25's strange ?

Nobody remembers that antonov a couple years ago?
And indeed a 747 cargo has more weight than the 380.

And probably there will be no runway change because the A380 was tested with crosswinds going up to 50kts!

So I think the only doubt for me is what taxiways he will be using?
And I'm think both or the whiskys or he will be taxing over runway 02/20 to the 25R ( the articel said there will be no traffic while the A380 is on EBBR).

But anyway,I planned a spotday that week so why not the 26th ? :D

C you maybe there guys

So hold all traffic just for some touch & go's?

Maybe Ostend is a better option, almost no traffic to hold :D

Maybe a main reason is to test that the A380 can land,take-off and manoeuvre at EBBR,
that is why I think he is not landing on the 25R but on the 25L.
To see if he can use the taxiways.

But one thing is sure,if he really can land,take-off and taxi without probs, and EBBR is providing the A380 on the airport than the national airport will get a lot of contracts from big liners!!

Why does all the trafic has to stop while the A380 is on the ground? It's not THAT big...

Don't know if they will hold the traffic. Maybe they choose one of calmest hours of the day to do there flights.

Well if the aircraft is coming around midday then this won't be a big problem because traffic is not so dense at brussels airport. I guess every other aircraft has to stop for security reasons. The airport isn't build by default to accept such a big aircraft so if there are problems, other aircraft's won't be stuck.
