Alitalia flight AZ1295 spectacular no-brakes emerg. landing

Post by foxtrot_lima_yankee »

Today flight AZ1295 operated by an Alitalia A321 between Milano Malpensa and Naples with 182 pax + 6 crew members declared the emergency on landing due to a malfunction on the hydraulical system of the brakes.

In a desperate move to save the plane from overshooting the runway, while it did not decelerate sufficiently, the pilot performed an unbelievable U-turn at the end of the runway.
Damage on the aircraft has been avoided an pax are all safe and well.

Good news about the outcome.

It would be interesting to know which types of plane are least likely to tip over in the circumstances. Is it to do with wide spacing of undercarriage?

Also it is a good job there was enough space for the turn, I suppose some airports don't have enough room for that?
