And Jetstar IIRC is a paper airline with no fleet as of now, no interiors and no service clases.

Does anyone have a clue about when Jetstar would start service, with which planes, with which interiors and service classes?

Here's an extract from the Qantas press release giving further details regarding the operations of Jetstar.
"One of our clear priorities is for Jetstar to be ready for international operations by early 2007, with the fastest possible transition to new technology, more efficient aircraft," Mr Dixon said.

Mr Dixon said Jetstar would commence operations with an interim fleet of four A330-200 aircraft and transition as quickly as possible to a fleet of 10 new Boeing 787 aircraft, with delivery of Jetstar's first B787 scheduled for August 2008.

"We will take delivery of the first B787 for Qantas mainline operations in July 2009," he said.

"The Boeing 787 is ideal for operating to Asia, as well the USA and Europe, and with 300 seats, will enable both Qantas and Jetstar to closely target markets without compromising efficiency," he said.
Well, found data about Jetstar. They want 38 premium and 265 economy seats on their Airbus 330-200 planes.

Sounds that they take over the Qantas planes with no seating or interior changes, because this is the current Qantas 330-200 domestic layout.

So, this is the accommodation standard on Jetstar. Given that B787 is but slightly wider than A330, can Jetstar be expected to install similar Economy and premium interiors when their B787-s arrive in 2008?

Qantas Boeing choice is without doubt partly due to their bad experience in the A380 delivery date.

I think Qantas wants to shift their fleets serving low-yield, low-service passengers to Jetstar brand - and also distance Jetstar from their existing crews and crew salaries.

Jetstar does have a market, the route does not have to be low capacity..
For example, flying to HKG from AKL, a Qantas flight can link passengers from AKL to maybe SYD, and then fly to HKG with Jetstar... that way an extremely competitive price, or probably an unmatched cheap price will be available... for those who wants cheap fares and can live with crap service for 8 hours, this is a good option!

I think QF might want some A359s to replace their old 747-200/300s.. it is significantly smaller but those oldies are often not full anyway... But as I said numerous times, they need to make a lot of variants of the A350 to take on BOTH the 777s AND the 787, not just model to model, but make something more special to regain the lost ground and regain the lead... Perhaps a fast version that cruise at MACH 0.9X??? that'd be mean! haha

Maybe, but Boeing never likes to speculate and only release order lists when they are dead certain.
