Dubai Airshow: news, orders, speculations and opinions

Post by AirbusA350 »

The 9th Dubai Airshow is just 3 days away and so it is resolute to start a new topic concerning this event. There definitely will be orders placed, some of which will influence the airline and the aircraft manufacturing industries. Very important orders for the A350 will be made and reimbursements for various versions of the B777's will also be included.
Narrow-bodies are also taken under consideration, therefore these types of aircraft will not be lacking in commitments.

Be welcome to post any comments or news that you come across concerning the Dubai Airshow.

It is not just Emirates: we still need to see how the arabs play on their home turf. MEA, Oman Air, Al Jazeera, Al Arabia, Gulf Air needs to replace some.

SQ and QF will most likely make their decision public at the airshow. The orders are very substantial to Airbus, first of all, there needs to be an increase in the orders for the A350 and so I think that Airbus will do anything to win QF over. QF's order has great importance to both Airbus and Boeing. The B767's will be replaced for quite a long period so therefore QF will not be a major customer of Airbus or Boeing for some time. SQ can order many different types of long-haul aircraft at any time, if they order B787's they might want to place an order for A350's later on after the first B772's will begin to be retired from the fleet. It's very hard to say what QF will order, although I got a feeling that it's going to be swung Boeing's way(I had a hard time making this choice), for QF the B788 is a great fit and the 772LR has some superiority in performance over the A355/6. QF will go for the price- Airbus is going to do anything to get this order and that's why it's hard to foretell QF's move. I hope Airbus will get this order as it needs some support for the continuation of the A350 and A345/6 program(no orders made for these planes for some time). Let's see how the weekend and the first days of the week shape up.

And a additional order for 80 more.

The source also revealed to Xinhua that the CASGC will soon sign another purchase agreement with Boeing for 80 more B737 aircraft.

So untill now we have the following orders and options :

Orders :
 30 Airbus A320 for Kingfisher
 20 ATR-72 for Kingfisher
 70 Boeing B737 for China
 80 Boeing B737 CASGC
 10 Boeing B777-200LR for Emirates
 8 Boeing B777-200F for Emirates (Sky Cargo)
 24 Boeing B777-300ER for Emirates

Options :
 15 ATR-72 for Kingfisher
 20 Boeing B777 for Emirates

That currently makes 242 orders and 35 options. Congratulations to Boeing (192+20) and EADS (50+15) !!! After dark times trailing the events of 9/11, the Aviation market slowly seems to get back on track (except for the large American carriers). I can only hope the rest of the show will be as succesful as is allready has been !

Greetz,

It seems like a Senior Executive of Cathay Pacific has talked of a major 773ER order.

Hope Airbus will win some big ones soon... they are going no where at the moment!! I really do think they need an improved variant of the A330 to give the 788 and 783 a bit of a fight...
Boeing's competitive models:
748
773ER
772LR
787-3/8/9
while Airbus only has:
A388
A350-8/9
A340-5/6?? <-- maybe?

btw, shouldn't Cathay Pacific have a think about the new A346 too?? Afterall they have so many A340s in their fleet...

Hi all! kinda new here!

Btw, I wonder when Cathay Pacific wiil be ordering new A380s, I mean it has been established that A380s are the way to go for large capacity flights. Majority of its competitors have already ordered. I mean Cathay's 747s are still healthy and all but I really think having the new A380s in time is crucial, otherwise it may lose passengers just because of thier interest in the new super-jumbo.

Also, I wonder what Emirates will be doing with all those aircrafts
Lastly, I'm really doubtful about B777-200LR's success. Most of the ultra-long routes are now firmly served by A340-500s or A340-600s like HKG-JFK, SIN-EWR and I don't think there is need of another ultra-long range aircraft immediately. Emirates has bought B777LR, but I wonder which route they'll use them for, besides they already have A340-500s.
