Replacing A340s for Cathay? Those A343s are still pretty new and those A346s are brand new... fuel price has dropped a little recently, are they that hungry to save that bit of fuel that they need to replace them?

I see Qantas needing new planes but Cathay - i just don't see it and Singapore too, their A345s are pretty much brand new and they already ordered 15 773ERs or something...

Airbus seems to be pretty confident with the A330, I reckon they can release a new A334 in later years with newer engines and other improvements to compete with smaller shorter range 787 (787-3?) because Airbus will be lacking variety and models vs Boeing.
The A343 looks like it'll be pretty much dead after the A350 comes. not sure about the 345 and 346...

Thought that SQ and CX weren't happy about their A345-346's. That's why they are looking at replacement of both types. Both looking at 777-LR and 787/350.

9W and EK are interesting in picking up their released LR Airbusses.

(that's what i understoud of this discussion)

The three A346 are leased, so are three of the 15 A343 for Cathay Pacific. CX is interested in B773ER to replace the A346. I don't think they'll get rid of all the A343, but they may decide to end the leases if they decide to go with B773ER. Fuel prices are still high, and it'll remain that way in the forseeable future. The next order for Cathay should be B747Adv, B773ER, and/or A333, with B787/A350 as dark horses.

Airbus may offer A350 for half the list price.

That's one hell of an investment to replace a fleet type!! Although if they're looking into it, the cost savings must be paying off the switch more quickly than we think.

What's wrong with the A345 and 346?? I mean 345's range is still top notch while 346's range and capacity is surely not down on 773ER right??
If 777 does have such an edge over the current Airbus models, they got to do something quick, like do something with the A330 or else from now until 2010 (A350), Airbus will lose out on orders every single year!

I don't know but it just sounds ridiculously too early for SIA and CX to replace their A345 A346 even though CX leased some of them...

Airbus does have to turn the wick up, cutting price might win them some orders now, but in the longer term they need more competitive models... Boeing is simply much more advanced with the 773ER and the new 772s..
