Re: Short flights on wide-body planes
When Pan Am came first to Belgium with the 747, the route was JFK-AMS-BRU and v/v with traffic rights between AMS and BRU. A lot of people had their first jumbo jet experience between those two Benelux capitals.

I don't think the DC8 was a wide-body; it is (was) the Douglas equivalent of a B707.travellover wrote:

I agree. Nevertheless they were long haul narrow-body aircrafts.convair wrote:I don't think the DC8 was a wide-body; it is (was) the Douglas equivalent of a B707.travellover wrote:

Re: Short flights on wide-body planes
The A300 is indeed a widebody, but built for short- and medium-haul flights. Thus one of the very first A300 B2 was bought by Belgian charter airline TEA for flights to the Mediterranean destinations.quixoticguide wrote:A300: IKA-BUZ = 718 km
The later version A300-600 was extensively used by Lufthansa: I remember my own flights from BRU to FRA and from FRA to AGP.

Boeing also developed a high-density short-haul version of the 747 for Japan domestic flights. I thus flew one of them from Tokyo Haneda to Osaka.sn26567 wrote:When Pan Am came first to Belgium with the 747, the route was JFK-AMS-BRU and v/v with traffic rights between AMS and BRU. Re: Short flights on wide-body planes
I flew lots of shorthaul widebody flights in the USA and Canada in the eighties and early nineties.
amongst others :
LGA-YYZ AC767
YYZ-ORD AA DC10
SNA-DFW AA DC10
DEN-ORD UA DC10
BOS-DTW NW DC10
ATL-DFW DL L1011
these short widebody flights are now mostly replaced by boring 737's or 320's...

We actually had booked Sobelair tickets, but in the summer of 1998 they had that aircraft from a company called 'Trans Aer' in the fleet.

Yes, only 2 times a week but that's around 3 hours flying time so not really a short flight?CTBke wrote:Emirates still operates the ATH-LCA on the 777
SQ also operates MAN-MUC with B77W, AY HEL-BRU with A359, ... and others.

I once flew MNL-CEB on a B747 (Philippine Airlines) with just 3 passengers on board (308 nautical miles).
