ANR-MUC and MUC-ANR with Denim Air

Post by Stij »

Good morning,

Yesterday was my first round trip with Denim Air. A pity it wasn’t with Vizion Air, but my trip was a few days to soon for their F50.

The goal of the trip was a day return to the BAU 2013 Trade Fair in Munich and was organized by TradeFairs, a tour operator specialized in these kind of trips.

Flight DNM1783 (Thanks TangoLima!).

I checked in at 6:30 for a 7:00 departure. Check-in was smooth and quick and a croissant was offered. I like this kind of charter flights!

After an again smooth and quick security check I was in the departure lounge observing a white airport. Our F50 was being deiced right before we boarded. Boarding started, we were friendly welcomed aboard. Because almost nobody traveled with trolleys and there was free seating we were all quickly on board. I took seat 2A. At 7:05 the doors were closed and the engines started.

I don’t know why, but the engines were running for 10 minutes before we moved from our stand. An educated guess would be the temperature of the oil, anyhow, the turboprop specialists can probably explain this better than I can. Anyhow a few minutes later we departed from Runway 10.

After take-off excellent crispy “piccolo’s” with cheese or ham “club style” were served with coffee, tea or other beverages. And later another round of “zachte sandwiches” with chees ham or “choco”;-) we offered. No plastic around, just a napkin. The best breakfast in the sky since I flew trans-Atlantic in Business (once).

After 1:30 of flying we touched down punctually at 8:45 in Munich, a quick trip to the terminal by bus and another quick trip to the trade fair by bus and I could start my day of work which consists of a walk of about 10km, a lot of talking and the exchange of little pieces of paper.. nothing important.

BTW, our plane continued to Nantes to pick up Pax there and bring them to Eindhoven where the crew would change. Normally on these kind of flights, the plane and the crew stay in MUC.

Flight DNM1784.

Because of a small problem with another group, our bus departed late from the trade fair to the airport. As I was looking forward to a nice Hefeweizen in the airport, I wasn’t too happy about this. Anyhow, after a half an hour trip over the back roads of Munich we arrived an hour in advance at the airport for the smoothest check in ever: 2 agents for 50 pax without luggage.

BTW our flight’s destination was indicated as Brüssel/ANR. Are we marketing as Brussels North now or something?

After an again smooth and friendly security check, I arrived at gate D5 15 minutes before boarding at 19:30 (Just enough time for my beer!)… to notice an hour delay… time enough for more than one beer…  Departure would be at 21:00…

Anyhow, I decided one beer would be enough and made a little walk in the terminal… which ended quickly because Terminal 1 in MUC is divided in several mini terminals and exactly 3 shops and a bar were available. Terminal 2 (LH) is better IMHO.

At 20:50 boarding was started with the most original boarding announcement ever: “People, let’s go”. A few minutes later everybody was in the bus and of we went.
We arrived at the remote stand together with our plane. Before us the catering was brought on board. While we boarded the captain had his cockpit window open and greeted us. The last time this happened was on FR when they were still a nice friendly company flying 737-200’s and when pax didn’t behave like cattle yet. After yet another friendly welcome I was in seat 1B. At 21:15 doors were closed, engines started and we started a looong taxi to the runway.

The captain explained that the delay was due to delays in de-icing in Eindhoven leading to shortage of de-icing fluid etc. etc. (the etc etc were his words) He promised he would make up de delay and arrive punctually in ANR. Pretty difficult, he would have to make it in 30 minutes but anyhow.

The catering consisted of a plastic packed sandwich with cheese or ham “German-style” and a chocolate muffin. Tasty, but more airline food like then my breakfast. As a beverage I selected a beer, only to realize to late I was flying a Dutch company… Heineken it was… ;-)

We touched down at around 22:50 and after a short taxi we deplaned. The rumor was we were lucky because at 23:00 ANR closes and we would have had deviate to BRU.

In conclusion: two excellent flights, preferred Belgian catering though. ANR is so convenient. Terminal 1 in MUC lacks entertainment. Given the fact that we flew in winter conditions, the 1 hour delay is forgiven. These day return charter flights are very convenient for expensive destinations such as MUC.

Kind regards,

Stij

Thanks for the report. I wish we had more flights, even charters to Spain etc. out of ANR
