VIE-JFK (OS087) is a B763 these days (I saw OS087 on that day by the way)
YYZ, IAD, YUL and eventually JFK are the only destinations in the US & Canada as far as I know Austrian serves with A332.

Indeed, my mistake. They don't operate YUL in the winter I think, only in summer. Somebody to confirm?

Hi

Nice pics guys!

Since I repaired my binoculars I can start contrailspotting too again...(after an interruption of 3 months...).Very unfortunately I had to help moving Sunday , and it was a marvelous day for contrail spotting , I think I can say for myself that it was the best day in 2 years , for sure. In the begindays that I moved to Oevel , I noticed that the route FRA-USA was in only a couple of km to the north.(max 3) so very close and in perfect light...planes only 8km alt. max. often not even a contrail or a starting , very light contrail.

The route suddenly moved , to my great regret. :(

But sunday it looked like restored I saw the largest amount of lufthansa long haulers EVER. Here is a short (very short) list of what I've been able to reg in the weekend. (of course WITHOUT reg...:D)

SAS Scandinavian MD-81
Belgian Air Force C-130H

Unidentified B767 around 12-13hrs LT? anyone who knows (outclimbing plane of RWY 25R above the Southside of Brussels towncenter.)

All mentioned planes above are only the ones climbing out above or near the Heysel at BRU.

Best regards: Yannick ;)

I'm already looking forward to the next sunny sunday.

Skystef,

did you manage to make a picture of the AI 777 on Sunday eve? It was contrailing to BHX on the same route a few minutes behind the Dynastie 747 to MAN...

It was a wonderful sight in the setting sunlight...

Indeed wonderful, but really on the edge of getting such shots sharp due to the poor light.
Any suggestions on the regi? Thanks a lot.

Indeed poor conditions the last 7 days, but it should improve by tomorrow.
I have a webcam installed which gives an impression of the sky near Brussels Airport.

Hi again,

as could be seen on my webcam, on January 23 blue skies but not much interesting traffic at cruising levels.

Here a grip.

Showing differences in light circumstances:

-back light: good for the plane, in this case Emirates A6-ERI en route DXB-JFK
Image

-opposite light: good for the contrail, in this case a returning A340-300 of Airlanka
Image

1255LT, perhaps the most interesting: NG0087 OE-LAW en route VIE-JFK.
Image

1555LT, I guess this must be an A319 of Qatar Airways heading for the UK.
Image

And a bit lower, always nice to see an ole lady banking: N703CK heading for JFK.

Pawel,

Malaysia mostly passes over the Netherlands, routing RENDI REFSO (westbound), thus passing overhead Rotterdam. A lot of Singapore airline planes have the same routing. It is also used by QF, BA, EK, QR .

I've never seen any MH plane contrailing over Belgium.

Indeed quite rare, but not unpossible like this shot of 9M-MPL on August 26 2005 proves.

Skystef,

Is the MH cruising E or W bound on your picture? I guess it is E bound?

Anyway, normal routing is more North, but can vary due to weather (winds).
