Current runways in use at BRU:

BATC currently gives LDG on RWY01 but that has changed to 07L.

Same happened before:

- when AF1 left Mildenhall for Newquay (Cornwall, for the G7). Instead of flying straight to Newquay (like SAM did), AF1 headed up north all the way to Manchester, then turned around and headed south and then explored the UK coastline en route to Newquay. Meanwhile SAM circled above Newquay until AF1 was getting closer and then SAM landed first.
Mind you, there was some fog at Newquay so that may have explained it. However, ...

- when AF1 left LHR for BRU it also took a very unusual path headed south west, and then took a turn above the Channel to fly towards Belgium.

And now again it is making these strange turns. I am glad you brought it up because I had been meaning to ask if anyone knows the reason for this.

A contact in the UK says that AF1 avoids the crowded approach and departure paths to the airports and only falls in line with the SAM accompanying it when it gets closer to the destination airport. Not sure if that explains it though.
