Well it's just a form of being polite to try to help each other
I will expect an email on wednesday.

I can give you some basic information already :

If you arrive thursday at Brussels in the morning or premidday you could go to the "Soundwall" near Steenokkerzeel centre (Just drive from "Carhotel" coming from the Brussels ring to the left, drive some kilometers further and turn right when you will see the signs "Waterloo / Steenokkerzeel Centrum". Drive straight and you will see a grass field with at the end of it a broken fence. Go through it and you will be at the soundwall - you will see the spotters). From 10 o'clock until 12 o'clock you will see al the heavies (to Africa and America) departing. With some luck 4-5 from 7 heavies (United, 2x American, 2x Delta, 2x Sn Brussels 333) will taxi via taxiway W3-4. This is the taxiway just in front of you almost 20-30 metres from the soundwall.

In the afternoon you could go to the refugee centre or the watertower. You can always send me a mail if you dont know those places.

Greetings,
Robin Z.

mr robin zartos told me to send a mail today to have any information for tomorrow. What will be the runways in use tomorrow morning and are there interesting things expected? I have also been told that the weather could be a little bit bad, any information on that?
Thanks a lot
best regards

According to the spotters database there is nothing very special to see in BRU tomorrow.
Maybe the Silverback I don't know?
Now for the weather, I'm sorry but it'll be bad :(
And for the runways, the wind will be quite strong coming from south-west. So I suppose it's going to be the 25's tomorrow.

Ciao
Chris

Went spotting yesterday morning, here is a short summary:
As for the weather it was really bad, I had to stay in the car between two landings. The wind was very strong and it was pouring down. I saw some of my favourites (BA319, DL763 taking off, BMI320) but the best was the LH320 that made a touch and go. It seemed like it was going to land but it didn't and took off after touching the runway. It came back 15min later and landed. I had never seen that, it was fun. What could be the reason for that? Apart from that there was nothing special and at 11h30 we headed back to Namur, soaked! I Took 23 pics though!
Hope next time the weather will be better and I ll go look for the famous soundwall.
Have a good day.

runways in use

Post by arthurv »

Yesterday night (12-13 feb 2005, around midnight) I tuned in to the Brussels National Arrival Information (Information Bravo at that time), and heard that 25R was in use for landing (which isn't unusual), but that 25L (Left!) was in use for departure. I checked and double-checked, but that's what it said. 25 Left for departure.
Either it was a mistake, or it's a strange runway usage configuration, isn't it?

That is not unusual because the 'spreidingsplan - plan de dispersion' calls for this configuration every Saturday on Sunday night (adverse windconditions can lead to another configuration). If the wind is within limits for the 25s, the configuration you describe is standard.

Looks like nobody replies anymore to this topic :)

Due to forecasts it will be the brothers 25L and R tomorrow, sunday 03/04.

Happy spotting!

Normal situation for Sundays: t/o on 20 till 18 local time, afterwards on 25R. Landing on 25R till 18 local, afterwards mainly on 25L but also on 25R. Wind forecast is 180/08KT, so this will be (presumable) the schedule.

I'm going to pick up my parents tomorrow 20/04 around 14.20 at Brussels. I want to go spotting a few hours before, so can anyone tell me where is the best place to be around the airport? I have a car, so getting there will be no problem...

Thanks!

michael_skypower wrote:hello all,

I'm planning a visit to BRU on friday (nice weather up ahead).
Can I expect runway 02 in use as the wind is probably NO?
Rules for rwy use: wind including gusts
rwy 02: >0kt tail wind & >15kt cross wind
rwy 07: >05kt tail wind & >20kt cross wind

For Friday forecasted wind will be 090° (east) with mean speed during forenoon around 04kt, from noon 06-07kt.

Concluding: forenoon 50% for rwy25L & 25R, from noon on almost 100% for rwy02 & 07.

Wind is a bit less than expected so if things stay like this rwy 25L & 25R will be used.

For the folks that have troubles in reading METAR reports I've created a decoder via this link.
