Aegean also has an A319 in their fleet. Just wondering: why didn't they use the A319 in stead of the A320? For only 60 passengers the A319 is big enough, and I would guess the A319 has shorter runway requirements compared to the A320?

seems SX-DGF (A319) is mostly based at Kalamata airport and flies to France, Russia, Germany and if they would swap that one for the A320 it could have been over capacity on those routes .. But hey the customer pays for the plane so they definitely made money out of it

But given the shorter runway requirements it might have been safer? Or is there only a small difference between an A319 and A320?

In the 1960s a Sabena B727-200 came to ANR.

Wasn't that the 727-100 ? As far as i know SN did't fly -200's.

Both SN 727 & 737 were -200 types.
For all these bigger types that came to ANR (don 't forget the 737-800), landing on a dry runway has no important weight restrictions. It's the T/O run that has all the restrictions. Regarding the 757, it has a very high thrust/weight ratio, but still, it probably was only lightly loaded when it flew out of ANR.
Also don't forget that newer types do not have necessarily better rwy performance. The 737MAX T/O rwy length requirements are worse than the 737NG

No difference in safety! The 319 might have taken more load for the same T/O run, but given the lower thrust engines installed on the Aegean 319, that needs to be calculated by someone with the FCOM 3 manuals at hand.
Only the LF would certainly have been better on the 319 :)

Of course it was a B727-100.
I mixed up with the B737-200 which was flying for SN to LHR in the late 70s and early 80s.

SN definitely flew 727-100's en 737-300,-400 & -500's too. I remember seeing at least once a 737-300 at ANR.
and i'm still not sure about the 727-200's. Maybe on a short term lease, but the OO-STA e.s. were -100s

No, you are absolutely right OO-STA to OO-STD were all the same variant if I remember well, but I was put on the wrong foot by its type designator Boeing 727-29C. It were -100's. Regarding the 737 I was referring to the original operating out of ANR, they surely had -300's (and more) but these were much less frequently at ANR.
