Statement by the Press Secretary on President Trump’s Travel to Brussels and NATO Meetings

President Donald J. Trump will travel to Brussels, Belgium, for the May 25, 2017, meeting of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Heads of State and Government. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced the Leaders Meeting date earlier today. The President looks forward to meeting with his NATO counterparts to reaffirm our strong commitment to NATO, and to discuss issues critical to the alliance, especially allied responsibility-sharing and NATO’s role in the fight against terrorism. In addition to the President’s participation in the NATO Leaders Meeting, the President will also welcome Secretary General Stoltenberg to the White House on April 12, 2017, where they will talk about how to strengthen the alliance to cope with challenges to national and international security.

Goedenavond medespotters. Ik had een vraag betreffende het bezoek van AF1.

Toen Obama in Nederland was, samen met andere wereldleiders, voor de NSS, waren het beleid qua beveiliging maar ook qua fotografie rond Schiphol aangescherpt. Fotografie was lastig.

Hoe is de situatie op en rond Zaventem als AF1 een bezoek brengt? Mag je dan wel gewoon fotograferen? Of staat de politie binnen 5 minuten bij je?

En wat is jullie ervaring qua baangebruik? Zal AF1 altijd op 07L-25R landen? Graag hoor ik van jullie. Alvast bedankt.

* politie: kijk maar uit, oompje Sam brengt altijd zijn eigen veiligheidspersoneel mee en die hebben nogal een, hm, "stevige" reputatie. In Brussel en overal.

* baangebruik: ik kan me niet voorstellen dat de gewone baanselectie zou verlaten worden omdat dit toestel nu eenmaal is wat het is - tenzij eerder genoemd veiligheidspersoneel zich langsheen de hele final en long final wil kunnen opstellen en dat zou me geeneens verbazen. Ik denk overigens dat ALS er een aparte baan voor wordt uitgekozen dat dat dan inderdaad wel eens de 25R zou kunnen zijn. 07, hetzij L of R lijkt me weinig waarschijnlijk, die hebben geen ILS - stel je voor dat de USAF-piloten op zicht zouden moeten landen, of met een of andere ouderwetse ADF/DME procedure

As AF1 will park at EBMB, I guess he'll land on 25R or with eastern winds at 01, as the taxi is then quite short to EBMB and the ILS of the O7-RWY's. Last time, quite some planespotters had pictures.

All the Belgian newssites are reporting that he will land at EBMB. Hopefully some insiders from BRU will know it by then and they are willing to share it, so the rest of us know too

At the March visit of Obama, AF1 was indeed at Abelag. In June, it wasn't EBMB but Brucargo.

AF1 should land at BRU the 24th around 1900 LT and is indeed expected at EBMB...

I think if he lands at EBMB, the chance is there that he lands at 25L and then taxies via 01/19 to EBMB with normal runway usage and landings via 01 with eastern winds. This would be then the same as when the Japanese Air Force 1 landed not so long ago.

When AF1 arrived at BRU on 25MAR14, runway 01 was in use but made the only VOR DME 07L of the evening...
(For the sadness of the loads of spotters and curious people waiting it at 01...)

So, we can't exclude a 07 arrival in case of eastern wind.

To avoid this, when you're chasing a specific plane, go to the "most probable runway", but stay in the car, ready to leave until you hear the "expect runway xxx" on the APP frequency. That day I managed to made it just in time @ brucargo, so just always be ready
