On http://www.solarimpulse.com/ you can watch the google map where the aircraft is/was flying (white line). This morning the flightplan was on the google maps, now it seems to have dissapeared.

Had you the time to see if it goes through the Ardennes or goes to Liège ?

Hi! I'm looking for a dutch-speaking, very enthusiastic flightspotter who's going to look at the landing of the solar impulse tonight!
He or she will be interviewed on the Brussels city radio FM BRUSSEL between 17 and 19 tonight.
If anyone is interested, please send me an e-mail ([email protected]) or call me (ask for Karen) at 02/800.08.02.

So if you are
- dutch speaking
- going to watch the solar impulse tonight
- available 5 minutes during 17 and 19 for a telephonic interview

Let me know if you want to help me out!
greets,
karen

Latest info realeased by ATC indicates eta between 2000-2100 local.
Rwy choice is still under discussion, crosswind >5kt is out of the question for this plane.
As wind takes a N'ly direction after 1900 local, rwy 02/20 comes as preferable choice.

You can follow the plane via a google map (works only with Firefox/Mozilla) via this link

(It is not visible on the screens of Flightradar24, Casper, radarvirtuel, etc...)

I remember it goes to Luxemburg -city, follows roughly the E25 to Liege, then in direct line to Mechelen, Vilvoorde, Brussels.

Environmentally friendly is one thing, but wow, what an awful sound it makes... :(

And anybody knows if it had ADS-B on board?

Access to the website is back (at least for me). The pilot is having an interview with BBC right now and just told that the ETA 21:00 or shortly before seems to be realistic.

Sair Mission Control (like in Houston!): As we are improving the links between the plane and the mission control room, we had to turn down our website. It will be back shortly !

They are back now!

21:00 local or UTC? 21:00 local would seem possible, though marginally, for VFR - and I don't think they carry the equipment required for IFR on this plane. But 21:00 UTC would be deep dark, would they be cleared for night VFR?

To be honest, I did not pay attention to the fact if it was UTC or local. However, due to the context, I would tend to say he meant local time. I'll pay attention to the next interviews if the question pops up again.

As I write, he is just entering LUX airspace.

Edit: he is just having another interview in French and told 21h-21h30 in Brussels. As it is for a general TV with a general audience (=not specialised in aviation), I'm 99% sure it is local time.

According to another interview :
They are a bit late (but probably less than 20 minutes), they just passed the half of the journey and the plane is facing crosswind (30° angle). They guess not having to hold holding pattern at BRU.

Have a look at their facebook page : http://www.facebook.com/solarimpulse
Runway for landing will be precised as soon as possible, but they will use a standard approach procedure, like other liners. They hope to overfly Brussels.

Note that for the time being, RWY02 is closed.

Solar Impulse has entered the Belgian air space.

The following is subject to weather conditions: landing of Solar impulse aircraft is currently scheduled on RWY 02-20. Can still change...
