Re: BRU 29/08/2008
Martinair Holland Retrojet PH-MCL to Varadero (Cuba) and Punta Cana (Dominican Republic). Departed around 1130.
After app. 2 hours flying - we were about to begin the Atlantic crossing - the pilots announced there was a leak in one of the six hydraulic systems. Because it would be too complicated to get spare parts into Varadero (because of US embargo), the decision was been made to return to EHAM (Amsterdam Schiphol) - Martinair's homebase.
We dumped fuel over the Atlantic and turned around to EHAM. Upon arrival, the fire brigade followed us onto the gate. Interesting to know that this has been announced by the cabin crew together with "this is not on our request, but following the safety standards in the aviation".
Technical problem couldn't be solved the same day resulting in a next-day delayed departure...
I have some pictures that I will publish later on.
PS: I guess this is the reason why the Cancun flight ex-BRU of the day after got cancelled.
