Aviation24.be is preparing for GDPR

Post by luchtzak » 20 Apr 2018, 22:28

Aviation24.be is preparing for GDPR, I am studying everything right now to be GDPR-compliant.

GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation and it is a new data protection law in the EU, which comes into force in May 2018.

The aim of the GDPR is to give citizens of the EU control over their personal data, and change the approach of organizations across the world towards data privacy.

The GDPR provides much stronger rules than existing laws and is much more restrictive than the “EU cookie law.”

For instance, users must confirm that their data can be collected, there must a clear privacy policy showing what data is going to be stored, how it is going to be used, and provide the user a right to withdraw the consent to the use of personal data (consequently deleting the data), if required.

The GDPR law applies to data collected about EU citizens from anywhere in the world. As a consequence, a website with any EU visitors or customers must comply with the GDPR, which means that virtually all websites and businesses must comply.
  • personal data pertains to “any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person” – like name, email, address or even an IP address,
  • whereas processing of personal data refers to “any operation or set of operations which is performed on personal data”. Therefore, a simple operation of storing an IP address on your web server logs constitutes processing of personal data of a user.

I am currently looking whether our terms of use are GDPR compliant:

By accessing “Aviation24.be” (hereinafter “we”, “us”, “our”, “Aviation24.be”, “http://www.aviation24.be/forums”), you agree to be legally bound by the following terms. If you do not agree to be legally bound by all of the following terms then please do not access and/or use “Aviation24.be”. We may change these at any time and we’ll do our utmost in informing you, though it would be prudent to review this regularly yourself as your continued usage of “Aviation24.be” after changes mean you agree to be legally bound by these terms as they are updated and/or amended.

Our forums are powered by phpBB (hereinafter “they”, “them”, “their”, “phpBB software”, “www.phpbb.com”, “phpBB Limited”, “phpBB Teams”) which is a bulletin board solution released under the “GNU General Public License v2” (hereinafter “GPL”) and can be downloaded from www.phpbb.com. The phpBB software only facilitates internet based discussions; phpBB Limited is not responsible for what we allow and/or disallow as permissible content and/or conduct. For further information about phpBB, please see: https://www.phpbb.com/.

You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-orientated or any other material that may violate any laws be it of your country, the country where “Aviation24.be” is hosted or International Law. Thanks for all your efforts. What I would much value is the option to accept cookies or not. But perhaps that is not easy to implement, very few websites offer this option.

When logging in you have the option stay logged in, or to log in every time you visit. I think that when you opt in a cookie will be placed on your pc.

On the contrary, isn't it much easier to stay logged in all the time ?
