Updating the forum software

Post by luchtzak »

Dear members,

I just finished the update of the forum software to new version 3.1.1

However todays posts seem to be missing from the database, the old forum is situation in this location if you would like to copy/paste your message in the new forums.

https://www.aviation24.be/oudforum/

thx for understanding and I sincerely appologies for the discomfort.

if you have further questions, don't hesitate to contact me or another member of the webteam.

I know that adjusting to a new version will take time an efforts.

A few suggestions:

1. Reintroduce the links on top of the pages: "about" "flight info" "forums" "latest news" "movies" "pictures"
2. Reintroduce the links on top of the forums: "view new posts" "view unread posts"
3. Reintroduce the general "search" function (now limited to one topic)

Good luck in the transition...!

4. In the "press releases / official news" section, the outdated press releases of previous years appear before the current press releases.
5. I have now to approve my own posts in the "press releases / official news" section.
6. The news appearing in the "press releases / official news" section is no llonger attracting the hundreds of clicks it used to get in the past.

The "search" function is now also in the "Quick links"

What I did for mine is to open https://www.aviation24.be/oudforum/ , recover them one by one and copy them to the current forum.

Please note that only the messages posted yesterday between 0:00 and around 15:00 have disappeared from the updated site. They should still be on the "oudforum".

We have a small theme issue with the mobile application, the menu header is messed up. If you like to have the quick link to the active topics scroll to the bottom (if you are using the mobile app). I will have a look at this to fix.

is it just me, or is the website running a bit on the slow side?

how's the 'page visits' (I forgot the proper word) statistic?
there must be a peak in hits, no?

Indeed, the site has been a lot more active since the recent events. But the server seems to cope: I have seen only a slightly response on my side.

The server itself never went over a 25% systemload, but the uplink (connection to the web) went above 90%, so I added (temporary) 2 extra gigabit-uplinks dedicated to luchtzak.be

Meanwhile, a CDN has been installed. This means a visitor always receives it's data from a server nearby. As example:

Belgian visitor: Diegem or Antwerp
Dutch visitor: Amsterdam or Rotterdam
UK-visitor: London or Manchester
US-visitor: LA, New York ...

And so on. This gives every visitor the best connection possible

A very important forum update (3.2) had to be performed. Due to unforeseen circumstances I made an error, an error that Bottie and myself could solve. The forum was down a little longer than expected.

Sorry my mistake!
