Air Base Koksijde is in the viewfinder of the Minister and the General Staff.

Helicopters rescue at sea it hosts, would be relocated to the civilian airport of Ostend.

The idea of creating an Air museum in Koksijde by sending them the collections of the Army Museum is the "blah", provides a record of the connoisseur.

The other big closing expected in the North would be one of the neighborhood Tielen which is based on the 3rd Parachute Battalion.
Several hundred soldiers are concerned.

The logistics center of Ypres, the orchestra of the Air Force in Berlare or the control center for military air traffic Semmerzake also will close.

About Semmerzake, the idea would be to entrust the task to Belgocontrol, already in charge of civil air traffic.

Belgocontrol in charge of military movements? Why not? But then there will be no more military controllers to take over some of the traffic when Belgocontrol is on strike...

The military cannot allow for an interruption of their traffic. They need backup controllers!

Hi,

Maybe it's the cheapest option to give our whole defense to some subcontractors ....
Let's give it all to the private sector ... defense,telecommunication,energy,...
Let's sell all those sectors to the french for exemple...
Quite handy, they'll to their utmost best to have it all and we are used to pay for everything much more...

Yes this is also political instead of aviation maybe... but who can thrust an government which act like this...
Third para of TIELEN closing ? That's our best protective forces nowadays... see them at the airport, antwerp streets, ???
Sea-rescue to OST ? Didn't knew there was infrastructure to host these ;) dhuh !

Poor little me cherished the exact inverse idea: close EBOS (which really is too close to built-up areas, today, let those bear the blame who allowed the build-up!) and transfer (some of) its activities to EBFN.

Or, as a compromise, a combined heliport for NHV and the ASR helo's in Oostende, plus perhaps one or two shortish runways for recreational aviation? WILOO would have to be a fervent supporter!

And a new pax terminal at EBFN, there's a railway nearby for good access!

But there would be some political rumbles about transferring services from Belgian to Flemish or vv - long live the Belgian multiculture! ;)

BTW I agree with André about the need for a separate radar operator to complement Belgocontrol's services, we have been shown how delicate those are. FWIW only today while flying a local bimble I heard Brussels Information ( = Belgocontrol) referring one pilot to Semmerzake, I wonder what or why though. A pity I couldn't note down the full conversation.

Brussels flight info transfers aircraft to Belga info when they are flying in or will be entering an area where there is military activity like low level military jets. These also use class G airspace and move at a higher speed than the more common private plane. These military jets are in contact with Belga and only they know exactly what they will do. So it is very useful for Belga to be in contact with the slower moving traffic.
If both controllers would be Side by Side then this transfer might not be necessary.

They beter keep Koksijde, open, if you move to ostend it would even cost a lot more, Koksijde is also a nice place to start new projects , a nice place to learn about unmanned aviation and other small general aviation projects, closing this place and build houses on it would be a big mistake , and a big lose in aviation history.

The airfield of coxyde was known during WWI as Furnes aerodrome. Belgian, French and RNAS units flew from these grounds and the RNAS Triplane made its first operational flight from Furnes airfield.Image ISBN-NUMMER : 9789082489101 21 euro (no delivery costs) [email protected]
