The "Heavyweight" of Luftwaffe

Post by pampa14 »

I share with you a report showing a fantastic collection of photos of aircraft designed during the Second World War to bring war and destruction far beyond German borders. However, all of them did not pass the stage of prototypes and testing. What do you think if these planes had been built in quantity? They would have changed the course of the war? Visit the link, see the photos and give your opinion through the poll at the end of the article.

No, larger quantities would not have changed the outcome of the war because of the simple fact that Germany had not enough fuel.
Interesting is how the Luftwaffe changed the use of their heavy airplanes during the war. They had greater succes with the guided bombs than with their terror carpet bombing in the beginning of the war.

The absolute major mistake was that Germany had not prepared to invade the UK immediately.
Large airplanes could have helped to destroy the imperial fleet, to enforce an Atlantic embargo, isolating pockets of resistance in the Mediterranean such as Malta and Gibraltar and to cut off the colonies from the UK.

With a military doctrine based on WWI experiences, relying on what they were good at ( land warfare ), there was no place for the navy or an independant role for the Luftwaffe.

Thank God for that smallish thinking of that little corporal.
