BBC TWO doc Thu 27 feb: "The Father of the 747" and more....

But the first, wide-bodied plane was (originally) intended as a stopgap to Boeing's now-abandoned supersonic jet.

This is the remarkable, untold story of the jumbo, a billion-dollar gamble that pushed 1960s technology to the limits to create the world's most recognisable plane.

Most "documentaries", including those of NatGeo and Discovery, tend to gloss over Joe Sutter.
This BBC doc interviews him.

The broadcast will start at 21.00hrs UK Time/22.00 hrs Central European Time, i.e. Belgium, Germany, The Netherlands.

It was a very interesting documentary, especially when you realise how it was designed and of course as the test pilot said without any simulators as we get today. The first flight was a true trip into the unknown!
