Flight to LAX

Post by Peeters »

Hello everybody,

As a not so frequent flyer I'd like to ask you guy's for some help. In july me and my girlfriend are going on holiday to California. What are the best / cheapest flights to LAX. From which airport do we have to leave, BRU or somewhere else. Is it best to book our tickets now already or is it better to wait until may/june?

I hope someone can help me with this.
Thanx

Hi,

Guess you're already a bit too late.. ( for the cheapest fares... for summer.. )
Check AirBerlin from DUS,.. but could you be a bit more specific when/how long/...
Think it's cheaper to divert to another airport if possible.. Phoenix,San Diego, San Francisco..
How more options you will try, the cheaper you're gonna get there...
Try booking-engines..cheaptickets,tix.nl,kayak,opodo and visit the local connections store..
Also try American,United,Delta,... on different times and desti's..
Spend some hours on these on you will see some changes :)
It's worth the time and money..

You better book as soon as possible, as your trip will be during the high season. You also need to be flexible if you want the lowest prices.

A quick search in the Star Alliance FareFinder for Android showed me the cheapest fare for a stay of 14 nights at 930 €:

Dep 24 Jul
BRU-YUL AC833 767 10.40-12.20
YUL-LAX AC775 319 17.30-20.24
Ret 07 Aug
LAX-IAD SN8814 777 07.55-15.45 (op. by UA)
IAD-BRU SN8802 777 17.49-07.15+1 (op. by UA)

But there are a lot of other possibilities. The farefinder sais there was one at 820 €, but I didn't find it.

At 934 € you can go with US through PHL both ways on 18 Jul. At 1012 € with SN via JFK, etc.

Finding the cheapest fare will involve a lot of research on Internet...

If it is the cheapest option: yes!
Otherwise I wouldn't go for them. Flew them twice last year and on both occasions they really got my personal award of worst US airline I've ever flown with.

Well, there are a few things that make me to say this. To give you an idea, I've flown AA (9 times) and DL (4 times) in the past.
Out of the 4 boardings I had with UA, 2 of them were done by really very impolite gate agents (both times in IAD). On my boarding for a domestic flight the gate agent was really rude to the boarding pax, and in fact the plane wasn't ready for boarding yet. Even the captain came out of the plane to say her she had to stop boarding, but she refused and continued. Then shouting that all passengers have to stand in 1 straight line or she would not continue. OK, I know it makes it much more organised, but you can make that clear to your pax in a polite and manner way, which totally wasn't the case.
Same for the boarding back to BRU few months later. Rude shouting agent, like she was working with small children.

Then about seating comfort, could be just the impression, but I was really cramped on both flights, especially on the return flight to BRU. I sat on the last row, and I was not able to sit straight forward because I didn't had place for my knees. I had to sit/hang/lay sideways in order to get some space for my knees.

Then, could be that I just didn't had luck, but on both flights not so polite flight attendants. Didn't experience any problem, but I had the feeling that if I would have asked something, they would be very annoyed by it.

PTV's and cabin in general were very old. I found the quality of the PTV really poor.

About the food. Of course, the ever lasting 'We don't have any chicken anymore sir, it will be pasta' (Why don't airlines take more chicken/meat meals on board iso of the pasta? I mean, with several airlines it's always the case that the last rows of the aircraft do not have the choice of meat anymore, and have to take the pasta.) Food was ok, no real complaints, except for the breakfast. On both flights with AA and DL (and with other long haul airlines I flew with as well), for breakfast you normally get something like scrambled eggs with a warm bread or warm croissant. Wasn't the case with UA. We just got a cold dry kind of cake. No hot food for breakfast. Ok, it's not too big of a problem, but it's a small thing that contributes to my opinion of UA. Might be that it's not the case nowadays as wellw ith AA and DL, but that would be a shame. My previous long haul flight was with LH to ADD, and then you get these things.

So, all these things made the opinion I now have about UA. If I would have the chose between a few airlines with the same fare, I wouldn't take UA.

Ok, nothing to do with UA, but I was also really disappointed by IAD itself. Very crowded, long waiting lines if you want to buy some food etc...

That would be a schedule that doesn't work for me (personal).

BRU-LHR-LAX: 06.00-07.00 and 9.40-13.00 (total time: 15u10)
LAX-LHR-BRU: 21.20-15.25 and 18.45-20.25 (total time: 14u35)

Arriving early and leaving late at LAX and short layovers at LHR, that's how I like it :)

What is mentioned are the cheapest options from BRU. If you want to leave from FRA, its 801 euro with AZ, or 802 euro with BA from LHR.
