What's the policy on alcohol when transfering into the US?

Post by peacemaker »

hi everyone

I have a little problem, now im in canada but i return to belgium via chicago. i and my brother who is 19 bought some wine for our father here, but we ll first have to travel to chicago where the drinking age is 21, we have a transfer in chicago... and when we came here they looked in our bags... will this give any trouble? i mean we bought it legally and will consume it legally, its just that in chicago they will look in our bags and say we have to be 21, but we could buy it in canada as the drinking age is there 19... what do i have to do?

If it's in your hand luggage, they will take it away anyway...

Kind regards,

Stij

-Check your baggage through BRU from Canada if possible.
-US Custom/Immigration formalities are usually performed in Canada before your board the plane for ORD
-Fill the US custom declaration form by indicating that you are in transit. I would indicate the bottle of wine as present
-Fill the US immigration form also indicating that you are in transit

Be prepared to give exact cl. and/or oz. sizes if at all asked for
