British Caledonian A320

Post by vc-10 »

Has anyone got a pic of the British Caledonian Airbus A320? I know that they never flew them, but at least one was repainted into BCal colours, before being repainted into BA colours.
Thanks!

Strange,
I thought Bcal ordered 5 A320-100 with an option on 5 others, and that order was confirmed by BA after the take-over of Bcal.

Where are these -200's comming from ??

That picture is from the 'later' Caledonian, i.e. after the takeover by BA. After taking over Caledonian, BA decided to keep the name, and so they named their charter arm Caledonian Airways. You can see it's related to BA by looking at the livery, which is similar to the BA livery at the time (i.e. the Landor livery). This plane is NOT one that was originally ordered by British Caledonian. An easy way to tell is that this plane has IAE V2500 engines, while the ones ordered by BCal had CFM56 engines. The order by Bcal was for ten A320s: 5 -111s and 5 -211s.

Aye that's right. The original BCal were fantastic to fly on but unfortunately never got to go on one of their A320's until they were in BA colours.

BCal DC10's from DXB to LGW and back every summer for 5 or 6 years were great flights.......they really looked after us kids ( as we were) as we were alway UM's!

So this is the charter company that formed JMC and later Thomas Cook UK. Nice to see those "oldies" again. Does Air2000 still exist??

Wich has now merged with TUI AG to form TUI travel PLC.

Hi Vc-10,

none of the ordered A320 airframes of British Caledonian were delivered in their markings, due to upcoming merger with BA.

However, one demo frame of Airbus (F-WWDA, msn 002) wore for a while the full colors of BCal.
