yes, it must be frustrating for the riot police that they are not allowed anymore to hang up pin up calendars, on charges of discrimination of the female gender. But as far as I know, hanging out a symbol of Flanders is not discriminating.
If this picture was taken in a room where only Dutch speaking policemen have their lockers, I can only conclude that the person who complained about these symbols was trespassing or at least not in the room where he belonged.
A bit one sided information because we see no pictures of the locker rooms of the French speaking riot police.

Question: as far as I remember this unit was before a Rijkswacht unit. ( for outsiders, kind of Guardia Civil ) falling under the ministry of defense. As far as I remember it is forbidden to take pictures of military/police buildings and equipment and /or distribute them.

So I suggest that the Ministry of Interior Affairs starts an investigation to find out who took these pictures and takes appropriate measures. :ugeek:

Don't shoot at the messenger! Political symbols should stay well clear of neutral terrain indeed. And yes, the police are supposed to be neutral and let's hope they can keep that up.

what a joke in this article : Demotte:"Les Flamands doivent faire confiance aux Wallons"
This person does not have to tell the majority of the inhabitants of Belgium what they should do. He could start saying how the minority should follow the law.
Serious: I was informed today that an Indian investor in Wallonie has decided to send the machinery of his manufacturing plant towards India after the latest ridiculous flash strike in July.
The land of his factory is already in hands of a Flemish investment company who will build a supermarket on the plot.
The salaries of people who work in supermarkets is 30% lower compared to that in that kind of manufacturing. Congratulations PS !

I hear strange voices from both sides from the language border: the voters don't care anymore.
And whatever the rulers of today will decide behind closed doors ( we, the people, don't get the full text about the agreement about BHV ), the people will not accept it if it hurts them- Flemish or Walloon.

And what outsiders don't realise and many Belgians as well, is that many inhabitants feel reluctant towards the inhabitants of Brussels.

All signs point to an agreement by politicians. Question is if they can sell it to the population.
Democracy = the people rule. Politicians seem often to forget that.

A general referendum in Belgium could surprise many Belgians, politicians and outsiders as well.

Look and listen at the video :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3Qz5WFa ... r_embedded#!

" Political squabbles mean Belgium has been without a federal government for 15 months.

A caretaker government with limited powers is in charge.

Europe has been plunged into a deep economic funk.

Belgians, however, seem oblivious to the chaos around them.

England responded to bad economic news with cuts, but Belgium's caretaker government does not have the power.

Belgians were spared from austerity measures.

It doesn't hurt that salaries and pensions are indexed to inflation.

Belgium is experiencing healthy growth while many Eurozone rivals remain stalled.

Maybe more countries should go without governments."

yep, this is something I hear from all sides of the world. Yesterday a strategically important businessman from... New Zealand told me that he starts to be scared that this Belgian model would be applied to companies to cut costs on unnecessary managment positions
But seriously, I just read the agreement that the politicians of the Brussels "enclave", or how should I call it, are preparing and guess what: it scraps the function of provincial governor around Brussel and all sorts of costly window dressing positions.

First rumours about the new government appear in the press. According to an article in La Libre, the CD&V will have three ministers (*), and mrs Sonja Becq is named as one of the three.

Mrs Becq lives in Meise and she is an active member from Actiegroep Noordrand - a lobby group who wants an total embargo on night flights and a reduction on flight operations during the weekend.

I"ver never thaught I would say this, but I hope that Etienne Schouppe remains on Mobility and Transport! He will be a railway man forever, but he was fair and honnest towards BRU. And if Schouppe quits: please, not Sonja Becq at Mobility/Transport!

(*) I know it should be "Secretary", but minister sounds closer to the Dutch and French word (minister-ministre).

I haven't found any names yet in the Flemish press. Quite normal, as they don't know yet if the Greens (Ecolo/Groen) will make the jump from the negotions to the goverment.

It is done: we get a new government. Belgium still exists.
So we can close this subject because - if we get a new government, it can/will fall resulting in new elections in Belgium.
So the title is wrong. ( maybe the one before last election of Belgium ? )

No panic please. Belgium, a true artificial state, has not known any civil war since its start up in 1830.
But on the other hand, it was created because the southern half of the Netherlands didn't want to serve under Dutch government from 1815 onwards.

So don't panic about Belgium. But we should all have started to panic with the decision to install a EU "president" Van Rompuy - who was not elected by the EU citizens at all. So far for the democratic system
The possible cause of European civil war is embedded in EU legislations to force peoples from all kinds of different backgrounds to obey rules from unreachable governors.

So to make it short:
The Netherlands in 1815 is the microreality of what the EU is supposed to become.

Back to aviation:
EU rules sound normal. But if a certain airport has handled Russian/African companies for years, it is very difficult to defend a EU directive that blacklists suddenly these airlines.
And why should we ban TU-154 / DC8 / B707 if they were OK 10 years ago?

I think there is an expression referring to a story or a myth to express the idea of mankind folly consisting of inventing machinery or systems that soon get out of control ...
While this theme is as old as humanity, I was searching which myth or novel or art work put it in our cultures .. maybe you can help my failing memory ?

My "panic" (was it panic ?) was -of course- tainted with humour ...
It seems we all expect a sort of "deus ex machina" coming out of the EU ...
Don't forget the EU institutions and power are what the national entities deem necessary to lend. And the national entities in question are emanations of the vox populi.
The presidency is still largely an "empty" function.
So in theory democracy is there. In practice it's more complicated, I grant you that.
However when the EU rules are changed dramatically, it's only fair to democracy that a popular referendum is organised ... in those countries that allow it.

So back to aviation .. We agree some watchdog is necessary to enforce the good parctices in ww aviation? Since ICAO or IATA are not designed for that, why not the political supra bodies like the EU or the US etc .. ? At least they have the power to ban those failing airlines from their airspace. I don't think the older frames should be in question there (as long they are properly maintained and conform to the security norms) .. After all Biman was flying old DC10s in the European skies .. you must sure remember ?
... hmm ;)

The actual 08 global financial crisis that severely impacted the world financial program also strike the Belgian financial team Fortis. Mister. Leterme's government attempted to resolve the actual turmoil through selling Fortis towards the French bank BNP Paribas. A number of shareholders compared the actual transfer and took the situation towards the court. On Twelve December, the actual Attractiveness Courtroom shipped its judgment, following that the Leader from the Attractiveness Courtroom sent instructions to the Home Loudspeaker, telling him which attempts had been designed to pressure the actual Appeal Courtroom idol judges within the situation. Prime Minister Leterme ignored the actual allegations however accepted that certain of his officials had approached the judges.
