The most beautiful airport in the world...

Post by SN30952 »

Lets begin this poll backwards. October 29, 2006
998- ?
999- Suvarnabhumi - New Bangkok Airport , Thailand. Open since September 28, 2006.

And the good news is: Board of Thailand Airports has resigned.

The board of directors of Airports of Thailand has resigned, less than one month after it opened Bangkok’s new Suvarnabhumi international airport. Effective October 18.
A new board will be appointed within one month. Why would that be?

Unfortunately, the airport will remain.....

You mean St. Maarten in the Netherlands Antilles.
I still have to decide. This is a tough question!

Sint-Maarten has a nice approach, but it's all hotels around it...

I vote for Saba in the Dutch Antilles  http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0432868/M/

I was also thinking of that one.
I vote for Osaka Kansai Int'l in Japan. It may not be all that beautiful, but you've got to admit it's impressive.

I think Tampa, FL USA is certainly among the contenders for the title.

I'm not sure of what it looks like today because it has been a long time since I was there, but "way back then" it was my favorite. Even the food in the terminal concessions is far better than most.

The planners and operators did their best to keep the surroundings in their natural state. I recall while taxxing a L-1011 I had to stop for an alligator directly ahead.

I vote for an airport that is in Europe: Tempelhof, mother of all modern airports :)

Tempelhof is special, but would you call it beautiful?

If you do not have a beautiful airport you can always attract special attrention as in Taoyuan International Airport, where they have a one-metre-long sculpture in the Number 2 Terminal is part of an exhibition of artifacts of the Thou tribe

I agree with Regi.

I have recently seen some pictures of Koh Samui Airport in Thailand. It looks small and very tropical!!!

Then, CaptainEd I suggest to nominate also the TWA Terminal @JFK, in the category "it has been a long time since I was there"

The most beautiful airport I've been to is Tioman in Malaysia. Short runway between two mountains necessitates a sharp turn and steep descent then the plane came to a halt just before ploughing into the jungle! And the terminal building is little more than a hut decorated with flowers! Highly recommended!

If you're looking for a special airport: Macau Intemational Airport (code MFM) opened in late 1995.

Punta Cana airport (PUJ), Dominican Republic 8) no airco, windows or anything... just a few open walls and a palmleaf roof, walking on the tarmac to your plane.... or smelling the kerosine and see\hear the planes coming and going while waiting in the "hall"...

And when landing seeing those numerous palms on the beach...

Can it be better? :D
