MD-11 still airborne

Post by MD-11 »

Hi guys and girls, just letting you know I haven't forgotten you all. Still waiting the final assembly of my new house.
Delivery date won't be before january 2007
In the mean time I should get started making new drawings.
This too has come to a pause since I can't print any examples from airliners.net where I find my inspiration.
I also have big plans in my professional life: I'm in the process of becoming a traindriver. I still have to pass the medical. If that succeeds I can start my training which will last 14 months.
I keep you guys posted.
See you...

I also wanted to become a train driver "machinist" (the Americans say "engineer") when I was young. And I still have two passions: trains and planes!

My great grandfather, and his father, were train drivers.

I wouldn't have minded driving on the Tube.

Tuesday, november the 7th: A big day for me. Than I have to pass the medical test to become a train driver. If that succeeds I have a 3 month notice ( instead of a "2 week notice"= The movie  ) in the driving school.
So all you members light a candle for me that day. :)

Perhaps. But for the moment it's planes. I made a AA 757 with winglets, a Transavia 737 with winglets ( in new colors ) and a Ryanair 737 with winglets. But you shall have to be patient a few months until my new house is ready. Latest intell says end of january 2007.

One of my passions: railway stations.
One of my favourites: Maputo - railway station, Lourenço Marques* then, by the famous Gustave Eiffel. The man of the Statue of Liberty and a tower of the same name.

And let it be said, even Shanghai South Railway Station is more beautiful than Suvanabum Airport, here at night.

Well Bart, in the train you will not have young pretty students next to you :D
Anyway, the chance of meeting you will be bigger since we travel frequently from Essen to Antwerp or Brussels (to catch the Thalys or Eurostar) by train.
A train driven by an ex car instructor and an airplane nut ;) I am very curious how this will end!
Good luck!!!!!!

Just finished my medical examination ( no it wasn't a young beautyfully nurse  :( ). According to the doctor everything was okay and the pschychologist also said I seemed to be a good candidte but I have to wait for my official letter that I can start. Within 2 weeks I should have certainty.
Now it seems that I can get stationed in Brussels-South depot. That would be better than Antwerp North. Because in Brussels I will be driving with people and from Antwerp it's only merchandise.
Perhaps I can drive from Brussels to the Airport.
I don't promise any "jumpseats" to Luchtzakkers however.
The NMBS doesn't approve of it.
About the drivingschool: perhaps I am going to give a few hours of lessons a week.
On paper a traindriver has 167 days off a year.
Keep you posted.

Congratulations!

What is the cockpit of the train like? And does the captain sit on the left or on the right?

There's a lot of difference. It's not like the Airbus family
Most of the time you sit left in a train. Sometimes in the middle ( Thalys ) and sometimes right.

Oh, no!
So tell me, how did they check your reactions to signals, Bart?

*Lets hope she does not read LZ, and change your test result after reading that.

How far do the Thalyses range? Marseilles? Germany? Chunnel? Italy?

Once upon a time, there was said to be a "Nord Express"...

As far as I know Thalys rides to Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Cologne. Eurostar drives to London through the Chunnel.
Last tuesday I got great news. I have passed all tests and I can start my 14 month formation in Brussels-Midi, this means I can drive with people instead of merchandise.
Now it depends of my boss how long I have to stay in the driving school.
