Glasgow 31/10-12/11/2021 (123 world leaders and counting)

Post by Xan »

Between 31/10 and 12/11 the United Nation's COP26 takes place in Glasgow, UK.

So far 123 world leaders have confirmed they will attend COP26, so this will be a good opportunity for airplane and radar spotters to spot government airplanes.

Among the 123 state or government leaders who have already confirmed to attend are President Joe Biden (US), PM Naftali Bennett (ISRAEL), PM Scott Morrison (AUSTRALIA), President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (TURKEY), President Emmanuel Macron (France), PM Justin Trudeau (CANADA), PM Mario Dragi (ITALY), President Ivan Duque (COLOMBIA), PM Stefan Loefven (SWEDEN), President Guy Parmelin (SWITZERLAND), President Moon Jae-in (SOUTH KOREA), President Felix Tshisedeki (President of DR CONGO and current chair of the African Union), President Muhammadu Buhari (NIGERIA), President Nan Akufo-Addo (GHANA), President Alberto Fernandez (ARGENTINA) and many others.

If I find the full list, I will post it in a separate comment - there may be some countries of which you have not yet spotted the government airplane.

Note to EU citizens: if you plan a spotting trip to Glasgow for the occasion, you will need a PASSPORT even for a short holiday. Since the UK left the EU, your ID card no longer suffices.

Cop26 World Leaders Summit COP26 takes place on 1-2 November so government airplanes will be arriving prior to that.

Schedule:

1 November
08:00 – 12:00 Arrival of Heads of State and Government at Conference venue
12:00 – 13:00 Opening ceremony
13:00 – 17:00 National statements

2 November
By 08:45 Arrival of Heads of State and Government at Conference venue
09:00 – 17:00 National statements
17:00 – 17:30 Closing of World Leaders Summit

(Source: UNFCCC)

No official list of attendees has been released yet although according to the British media more than 120 world leaders will be attending.

There is some news on those who will not be present:

The Pope has confirmed he will not attend - instead a high ranking cardinal will attend. From an aviation perspective this is a pity because the Pope flies with call sign Shephard1, and since he doesn't travel often it's a rare sight on flight trackers.

President Putin (Russia) will not be attending either.

Attendance of President Xi Jinping (China) is still unsure.

Rome - Glasgow

Aforementioned SAM just entered Belgian airspace.

Interesting flight path. Unfortunately the sky is still 8/8 clouded but later this evening the sky should clear for large parts of Belgium.

No idea yet when the G20 leaders will depart from Rome for Glasgow. If - big IF - they follow the same route as the SAM, backyard/light trail spotters in Belgium may get to see some of them.

Meanwhile a German government airplane is in a hold between Firenze and Rome.

Rome - Glasgow - G20 leaders

Post by Xan »

L1-01 - Slovenia - https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=506f24 (en route)

15001 - Canada - https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=c2b355 (on the ground, Rome)

The G20 Leaders Declaration was released 10 minutes ago, which means it probably won't be much longer before the caravan of G20 leaders will make the journey from Rome to Glasgow or Prestwick.

At best, and weather permitting, we may get an opportunity to spot some light trails.

List of world leaders at COP26

Post by Xan »

You can find the list of world leaders present at the World Leaders Summit (COP26)

https://unfccc.int/sites/default/files/ ... _HLS_0.pdf

This ends tomorrow, but some may leave early (today)

So if you want to catch all government airplanes, it's best to start radar spotting now.
