Air India vs. Boeing re 787 Compensation

Air India (probably at the urging of the Indian Government) is seeking a large amount of compensation from Boeing as a result of the delays in 787 deliveries. Reports indicate that the amount sought is up to $1 billion. Boeing has said "No way" to this amount. Today's Flight Global is repo...

Re: WWII P-40 Kittyhawk found in Egyptian dessert

A similar story involved the B-24 ("Lady be Good") which went missing during WW2 in Libya, only to be found in 1958 (gee, was it that long ago?). see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Be_Good_%28aircraft%29 My step-mother's brother flew B-24's from Libya during WW2 and he once said that t...

I saw on the news tonight that an Irishman has identified the plane as having been flown by this uncle; a search is underway for any human remains in the desert.

Re: Aeroflot A320 contaminated wing take-off

This video gives me shudders. I was on the Express (southbound) lanes of the 14th Street Bridge in Washington DC (in January 1982) when an Air Florida 737 crashed into the Northbound structure. We were about 150 meters from the crash which was caused by improper de-icing procedures. The plane had be...

Re: Also British Airways wants the Boeing 777X

Hi, Why not replacing 744 with 748 ? :( CX-B 748 a dead plane already, before it ever took off ?? or just cargo ? I have a friend who flew 747-400's for United; he said it was a real gas hog but it carried 400 passengers 8,000 miles. The 747-8 can carry about 450, the same distance, so you get bette...

Yes, both were returned, but only after disassembly and close examination. Requesting return is just a matter of accepted protocol.

Re: US drone in Iranian hands

The story is not over yet: the Iranians show evidence that they cracked the security/program codes of the drone they got. Just a detail. But the article gets quite funny when it tells that the USA has asked its drone back. I do not want to be pro or contra somebody. But asking a spy plane back that...

Re: PHOTO: The 4,500th (four-thousand-five-hundredth) F-16..

the obvious question is now why to put so much money in the F-35. While most of the job against Lybia was done by F-16's. why develop the F-35? New threats, increased electronics capabillity, stealth, etc. Yes the F-16, F-18, etc. all have a lot of useful life remaining, but newer capabilities can ...

Subsidy Issue - Help me understand

There have been press reports that the WTO has found that both Airbus and Boeing have received improper government subsidies which have distorted the market and give unfair advantages. In the case of Airbus, European governments have given Airbus direct subsidies to develop new aircraft to compete o...

It IS a most interesting (surface effect) aircraft; I wonder what it's status is? The engine inlets are covered and it looks a little weather-worn.

Re: USAF cancels Global Hawks in favour of extended U-2 serv

The articles mention budget cuts, as if a U-2 pilot comes for free. I realize that the GH also needs a remote pilot/controller ( or how would we call a person behind a computer thousands of miles away who directs a GH ?) But the difference is that a cell of GH controllers can handle more airplanes ...

Re: USAF cancels Global Hawks in favour of extended U-2 serv

He has told me many times that it is the most difficult plane to fly as it has a flight envelope of only plus or minus 3 knots at altitude. You have to carefully monitor speed and either climb (to loose speed) or descend (to gain speed) to maintain the peg speed. 3 knots over the peg speed and stru...

Re: USAF cancels Global Hawks in favour of extended U-2 serv

I know a retired USAF pilot that has 12+ years in the U-2; some of his stories are really eye opening, especially as to where he flew it. His biggest complaint was 12 hour missions - long and intense. He has told me many times that it is the most difficult plane to fly as it has a flight envelope of...

If they claim so, it must be true. It must be VERY stealthy since even the guys with tin-foil hats don't claim to have seen one! :)
