Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future

[[ getting even more off-topic ]] Aren't you confusing with EBLB Elsenborn/Butgenbach? I much wonder about the status of that neat little asphalt runway, I last heard it was used for UAV trials but that is many years ago. EBLB: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=16/50.4848/6.1831 EBBN: https://www.o...

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future

Ha, there you are touching on a pet peeve of mine! Actually, several, even. * from a legal point of view, I see no issue; and if there were, legal action would have been underway long since. The airport operating company being a private venture, they have every right to publish whatever they want in...

Though mostly Austrian registered, these Skyvans seem to operate mainly from Klatovy LKKT - not a very common mention here, either. I have a few pictures:

Infrastructure damage: at EBZH Kiewit, the windsock and its mast were blown over. Or at least, that's what I see on the webcam : http://ebzh.be/webcam/

Re: Storm Ciara 09/02/2020

Tankering fuel (ie carrying fuel for 2 or more sectors) is quite common in aviation. Yes, but not always for the same reasons. In commercial air transport, price may be the usual reason; smaller planes sometimes fly to aerodromes where their preferred type of fuel is not available at all; quite a s...

Re: Storm Ciara 09/02/2020

Very strange: EBBR/BRU had seen 19 in use for both landings and take-offs, only to be expected with the strong southerly wind.
Now, around 20:05 UTC, operations seem back to the "standard" 25R for dep., 25L for arrival. OO-SSI aborted a 19 approach to turn aside then land on 25L.

Re: Storm Ciara 09/02/2020

With a good and up-to-date virusscanner, I should think :)

Meanwhile I am surprised to see the winds calmer than they were, around 18:00 UTC, on a long final for EBBR 25R. Or would it only be a short lull? The climax had been forecast for late evening and night..?

Like we say in Flemish: met een korreltje zout
Or, in a more universal language, to avoid cultural struggles :) : "cum grano salis" - if I didn't miss the dative of the purpose or whatever they call it... As I understand, the English say "with a pinch of salt", too.

Re: Boeing 737 (MAX) news

@Jan_olieslagers, you fly small planes. What do you do when you go-around? You add power and you check you have it (although you are lucky, you'll hear it too ;) ). Yes, if going around (for which one has always to be prepared, if there's gliders around, with their own smaller traffic pattern, and ...

People are not stupid If this were wikipedia, I would ask for an encyclopedical reference :) for that. Also: seeing the rapidity and frequency with which products and companies are rebranded today, at the impetus of highly qualified marketeers, I am not so sure the idea is wrong. Especially in a co...

Record QNH in Belgium

EBCV has the highest of all, at 1049. Not sure I can "screw" my altimeter that far! Not that it really matters, my aerodrome won't open anyway in this low-cloudy weather. METAR EBAW 201250Z 16003KT 4000 BR SCT003 05/03 Q1048 TEMPO 6000 NSW= METAR EBBE 201255Z VRB01KT 4000 BR SCT003 OVC005 ...

No. An injury requiring a plaster is certain to invalidate your medical, which automatically invalidates your licence.

Re: Air Belgium in 2020

Negative. 5000 € is 5000 € and 273K is 273K. If you perhaps meant the way facts and figures are presented by certain media, then I totally share your scepticism. Finding the facts is one thing, knowing how to interpret them is quite another. Reading a balance sheet is not an easy matter, for just on...
