Re: Air Transport in Africa Outlook

I should have reported on the Luxair link to Dakar here instead of in Trivia. Here is more concerning Dakar. Last week SmartWings inaugurated their flight from Bratislava. Will be weekly on Saturdays, with a B738. Smartwings at GOBD 20220409.jpg Also announced as from May 2022 is AlbaStar with a twi...

Re: Trivia 2022 (miscellaneous news)

Yesterday 13APR Dakar welcomed a first Luxair flight from LUX.
There should be a few charter flights until the winter season when Luxair will have up to 3 scheduled flights a week.

Re: Trivia 2022 (miscellaneous news)

Guys, why are you twisting my words like that? Just read what I wrote. I never said that the R/T rules, i.e. with ATC, apply de jure to the cabin comms. But it does apply de facto because the flight crew shall not use the word “take-off” before the readback to the corresponding clearance. Just tell ...

Re: Trivia 2022 (miscellaneous news)

Unfortunately it is still not uncommon to hear the "Cabin crew take off in 2 minutes" H.A. What has communication between cabin crew and pilots to do with RT phraseology? Luckily it’s April fools’ day, so you can pretend it was just a joke. The R/T phraseology rules are in place to ...

This was SN369 that left Yaounde for BRU yesterday evening around 2100UTC. About 2 hours in the flight, while at FL400, they went into a 360 and descended to FL380 to land at TMR one hour later around midnight UTC. Re: Trivia 2022 (miscellaneous news)

45 years ago, on 27 March 1977, the worst ever aviation accident occurred at Tenerife Los Rodeos (now Tenerife North, TFN/GCXO). A KLM B742 took off without clearance and rammed a Pan Am B741 that was still backtracking on the RWY. All 248 on board the KLM perished while 335 died in the Pan Am where...

And one more time thank you Gregory for your message at 06h22 that day to postpone our meeting till 10h30.

Re: Trivia 2022 (miscellaneous news)

Agreed Dibo, MLAT has its limitations. There was a tongue-in-cheek in my reference to the reliability of the data.
I stumbled on it when I saw this bird near Waremme at 1300ft 300fpm ROD and 474kt. That would have attracted some attention and be in the press by now. ;)

Just saw a BAF F-16 flying at rather low level during return to KeeBee.

If the data from globe.adsbexchange.com are correct, it's 1000ft and 454kts.

Thanks KriVa, I appreciate your detailed interesting answer. Reminds me of Luchtzak.be when this type of exchange was the standard. ;) You are perfectly right about the tankers mission profiles. Years ago I was in contact with some crew of the 100ARW at Mildenhall and they said it can be anything fr...

While FIRs in the West request to remain 200nm clear of UA airspace, it seems the Russians impose to stay 500nm off the easternmost border of Ukraine.

This Pobeda from IST to Moscow spotted on Friday 25FEB.

Lots of tankers still on duty close to the western border of Ukraine. Enough to quench the thirst of many fast jets over there.
