Re: 06/06/2017 power failure at Belgocontrol
We all know it's typical for Belgians to complain, especially on our own systems. Of course there is room for improvement but the above post is really exaggerated: - "one of the poorest in Europe": Have you ever flown in Italy, Spain, Greece? - "delaying vectors vs holding": I p...

Re: 06/06/2017 power failure at Belgocontrol
When are they going to change? This ATC provider is one of the poorest of Europe: has any pilot ever received an expected approach time when coming into BRU? At peak times they sometimes vector you miles and miles away at low altitude (like if they forgot that holding patterns exist), noone knows w...

Re: Low cost airlines all scaling back at BRU
Indeed. Surely the current SN, in it's size and business model, is more impacted than a bigger player by the fuel cost. If most airlines can more or less benefit from a low fuel context, it would be interesting to read some figures. I believe this is a wrong interpretation of what jan meant, tavell...

Re: Noise abatement by reducing power just after take-off
HA explained quite well. By the way, it is perfectly possible that you will notice an increase of thrust at 1700ft. This is because take-off thrust at lower weights is sometimes so low (long runway available at BRU), that the "climb thrust" mentioned in the AIP is actually higher, resultin...

Re: BRU infrastructure: future
Apron 4 is now most of the time empty and can be completely used for LCC operations. That's the area you see on your right when you drive towards the airport, right? I've been bussed to those positions and it's a 10 min bus ride away from the terminal at least! Low cost airlines will hate it when t...

Re: Aircraft dying of old age?!
There's just no demand for A340's.
As an example, take Lourdes airport. Probably about 30 A340's lined up next to the runway, not being used.
There are probably plenty of airports like that!

Re: Aviation Headset
The Bose A20 is nice, use it at work too. Keep in mind it is really quite heavy, a problem you don't have with in-ears. Also, the "hinge" on top isn't covered well with the soft padding, resulting in a painful spot on the top of your head after a few hours. Only an issue if you use it that...

According to the mail, first delivery should be around the end of 2018.

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
First of all, thanks you very much but i know it's out of the fleet. The plane was ferried TODAY and indeed it was headed to the UK. On flight radar it was stating that it was going to abu dhabi, as i wrote in my previous post it was a mistake from flight radar. The reason was that the flight numbe...

Re: Explosions in the Departure Hall of Brussels Airport!
Can the crews operating in and out of BRU share how they are experiencing the chaos? Diversions, etc... Why are so many flights choosing to divert to OST when CRL is much more convenient? Are FR flights diverting/operating from CRL? What operational decisions are being made for the short-term opera...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
We will find out soon, I guess. One thing is for sure: there is a lot of very positive news pending, based on the shortlist from above. The title of most dynamic airline in Belgium is already theirs(!). Most dynamic? Are you kidding me? Have you seen what an evolution JAF has made over the last 4 y...

Re: Jet Airways out of Brussels
Tonight I attended a dinner where I sat at the same table as a member of the management of Belgocontrol. He told me, without saying that it was confidential, that Brussels Airlines would start flying Brussels-Delhi after Jet Airways would move their hub to Amsterdam. Wait and see. ... Not saying an...

Re: Brussels Airlines too noisy at Stockholm Bromma Airport
Actually, what i'm thinking is that all the route now operated with the Avro's exepted Bromma, Florence, Strasbourg, Birmingham will be gradually replaced with A319/A320... Looking at their arrivals/departures tables, It seems there is no problem for A319/A320 in Florence, Strasbourg and Birmingham...

Re: Brussels Airlines too noisy at Stockholm Bromma Airport
Flying with airbrake and thrust simultaneously is absurd in times where everything we do fuel-wise is scrutinised, trying to save every last drop Imagine, if you fly a low vis approach, does the 1000ft call ring a bell to you? Yes ofcourse, it's ; Airbrake OUT, exactly because you want a higher thr...

Re: Brussels Airlines too noisy at Stockholm Bromma Airport
To answer the technical aspect: On the Avro RJ, the tail cone opens up to act as air brake. It allows pilots to come in for an approach with more drag and resulting higher thrust setting. When the thrust is taken out during the landing touchdown, the airbrakes help the aircraft slow down faster, bu...

Re: Replacement of Brussels Airlines' Boeing & Avro RJ fleet
Just seen on the BRU airport website that SN is recruiting some FO and Captain for the Avro. It looks like it not yet this year that the jmbolinos will be phased out. They are recruiting on temporary contracts only. It's mainly to catch the summer season peak, I would think. They're doing the same ...
