Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

Dear SN26567, I always though mods were doing a pretty good job. I don't know which messages were or will be deleted, but I hope it won't come down to stupid censorship. I hope you won't see airline bashing when it is criticizing of management's decision. The SN brand and its workers always have my ...

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

Well, fact is: had SN not flown from ROB, the health worker wouldn't be infected. Shipping media equipment and aid? Of course I agree. Flying leisure and business pax, 'as usual', I disagree. Ban all leisure transport to and from these countries. If airlines complain about lack of revenue, offer a c...

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

I hope the health worker, with quick first-class treatment, will be able to recover. If I was him, or his immediate family, I'd be so pissed off. Hospitals and authorities not ready, airlines still flying there and importing the virus, passengers lying on their statements. For all the SN fan boys wh...

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

Aren't SN and RAM shooting themselves in the foot?

All airlines in the world see their shares lose value because of Ebola concerns.
Thanks to ONE passenger who managed to bring the disease with him back to the states.

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

October 8th, US airways 845, phili to punta cana, a passenger sneezed and told he could have Ebola, as he came back from Africa.

Man was joking, but neverthess:

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

I think they are indeed all taking commercial decisions before safety concerns. It's all about weighting profits against risk. If the airlines are to be taken liable in case the epidemic spreads to another country, you can be sure they'll stop flying there, or they will have to buy very expensive in...

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

Agree, we want to stop airlines (all airlines) flying there (currently only SN and RAM) I'm sure Sean would be more than happy for Ryanair to stop flying to Morocco if the epidemic spreads over there. OR we need better measures in place than what we have now (temperature checks are a joke. Blood sam...

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

Passenger,

First-world countries have the logistic to send medical personnel and equipment, as well as the logistic to bring them back safely.

Airlines clearly don't.

Safety before profits, please!

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

Clearly an attempt they are making to de-dramatize the situation.
The day I see the good doctor sit without protection next to a contagious person will be the day I believe what he says.

As for the toilets, it depends on the type I guess. Most are the sucking-type, aren't they?

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

I hope SN is acting in the background. They can easily find the pax name in the press and can contact passengers who were sitting next to him and cabin crew on the flight. Just to let them know.

Beeing proactive can't hurt.

Re: Subsidies to Belgian airlines

Can someone clarify? Charleroi airport is charging too much, or too little? Why do they have to reimburse anything if it's too little? They should be getting more money, right? Edit: ok, they seem to be charged too little by the state for ... services? (atc, maybe?) Meaning they will have to reimbur...

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

If no infected passenger had taken an SN flight, we all would have said "good economic decision, Mr Gustin, you saved our airline!" It seems the gamble was too risky, and hopefully the paranoia won't spread too fast when word circulates that SN let an infected pax travel. Too early to say ...

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

I'm with you, airazuxtor. By experience, temperture checks at airports are a joke. (thermometer reading 32°, am I healthy or dead already?) And certain sources affirm that, although the risk of contagion before displaying the first symptoms is low, it is not null. I understand why they are reticent ...

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

Anybody knows his travel itinerary?

As apparently Ebola is only contagious after the first symptoms, I think other pax and crew are pretty safe, but you never know, right? Better find anybody who could have been in contact with him before it's too late and the disease spreads like crazy.

Anyone with access to the entire interview?

Gustin seems to be saying that SN is not making extra money of their flights to Ebola affected countries.

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective

SN is really doing good this year (traffic and loadfactor wise) But as Sean talked about fleet renewal, I agree that SN should be given the right tools, if we want to see it make profits and become competitive against other airlines, not just against Ryan Air. Its strength is that it has a relativel...

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

Very nice first post, A321er. While I preach for SN to stop flying to Ebola countries, I don't do it to make SN lose money. While it is true the risk of contamination is low, all it takes is for one pax to slip through, and SN will suffer badly from bad publicity, if not from court cases. After all,...

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

Flying to ebola-land is a commercial decision. I just hope they won't regret it.

If people learn that a contaminated pax flew SN, you can be sure bookings will suffer.

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

The WHO wants more flights to ebola-land, that's understandable. But they could maybe charter planes, just for them? The risk is not to fly doctors, nurses or equipment to these countries. The risk is to take back a passenger, family member of a sick person, back to Europe. So, fine by me if SN stic...
