Emirates might reward Airbus at the Paris Airshow in the summer with a large order for A350's. Maybe 100 A350-1000's if it does happen. What do you people think? The A350 will not be as efficient on fuel burn as the 787. Wound barrel sections will always be lighter than composite panels on aluminum...

I wish Tim Clark would stop wondering out loud so often. It seems like every month that he says something just to keep Airbus or Boeing attentive to his whims. If he's so impressed, he needs to stop playing games and just buy the darn thing.

I'm not trying to turn everything into a Boeing vs. Airbus issue, but a 2012 entry date for geared turbofans appears to favor Boeing. By say 2010, the work on most 787 variants will have been completed (except for perhaps the -10), freeing up resources and capital for a 737 replacement. Airbus will ...

Are we still on this thread? Let's start new threads here for stories not related to the "Boeing Press Conference" (the pictures from Smokerjumper were cool though). :D The Avianca story is interesting because apparently they think they're getting their 787s in 2010. Could they hav...

It's about time they replaced the MD-80's! 47 of them anyways. Whoever thought that engines should be mounted to the fuselage was obviously already deaf and wanted everyone else to join him. :D

Putting the politics aside, it's rather impressive and quite embarrassing to the Sri Lankan government that the undersized opposition can project air power. That's the only newsworthy part of all this. Next, the opposition will introduce UAV capability with model airplanes they got from the local ho...

I see, it is a translation error. Russia is to be a risk-sharing partner on the A350, with 5% of the workload, as reported on Flightglobal here:

Actually, the A400M answers a pretty good need -- capacity between a C-130 and C-17 -- and could be quite successful as an export. The US Air Force ought to take a look at it, although that's probably not politically possible. The C-141 previously filled this need. But once production of it wound do...

Some will be built in Russia, huh? Not sure what the point of that would be. I doubt that Airbus would start up a permanent production line there. More likely, they would only final assemble from major subassemblies built elsewhere. Doing that on a temporary line would be horribly inefficient -- no ...

Perhaps Boeing is offering great discounts on 767s for customers who can't wait until 2013 for 787s? That could keep the 767 line going in anticipation of winning the Air Force tanker contract.

Neither article makes sense to me. The Forbes article says EADS would benefit from splitting the commercial aircraft side (Airbus) from the rest of EADS (Airbus Military, Eurocopter, Ariane, etc.). The reason Boeing bought McDonnell Douglas was to reduce reliance on the commercial industry to hedge ...

The official Airbus estimate is 450 orders for breakeven. Even that number hides the true financials, given the heavy discounting they've had to offer on A330's as interim planes.

Let us not forget the most important airliner news from today is the landing of the A380 at JFK. The press conference from Boeing is just an attempt to reduce American press coverage on the A380. A reporter's view of the press conference: http://tinyurl.com/2aepx5 Of course, everyone is always "in discussion with a lot of customers". But Scott Carson does sound upbeat about the 787 being on time. That optimism carries more weight than John Leahy's "We will bury you" type ...

"The contract for the 787s is frozen," Aeroflot CEO Valery Okulov said. "It's hard to say how deep that freeze is."

Sounds like he wasn't the one to freeze the contract. Rather it was frozen for him, and he doesn't know whether he can unfreeze.
