Re: Alitalia near bankruptcy. Can it be saved?
Alitalia's record flight time aided by Storm Ciara jet stream. Alitalia made record time crossing the Atlantic on 9 February, recording a flight time of six hours and 38 minutes between New York and Rome. The Boeing 777, which took off from JFK airport at 17.18 (23.18 in Italy) on 8 February, landed...

Re: Alitalia near bankruptcy. Can it be saved?
Latest rumour is that Atlantia, owners of FCO, will take a major stake in AZ. Why? Atlantia risks losing its very lucrative Autostrada franchise because of the collapse of their Morandi Bridge on 14 August 2018,causing the death of 39 people. A lovely Italian style compromise.

Re: Alitalia near bankruptcy. Can it be saved?
The latest 'savior' of AZ is billionaire Claudio Lotito, owner of SS Lazio. Lotito said 'regarding Alitalia it's work in progress, I can't say more'. Lotito was banned from football for two and a half years in 2006 for his part in the 2006 Italian football match-fixing scandal. Lotito got banned aga...

Re: Alitalia near bankruptcy. Can it be saved?
FdS have been given an extension until 30 April only to avoid overlap with the EU elections. Incidentally,to illustrate the scale of AZ's problems; LH's withdrawn plan was to take only the flying operation and reduce its staff from 7k to 4k. The maintenance, handling and offices were to be outsource...

Re: Alitalia near bankruptcy. Can it be saved?
I am not sure the investigation of the three top managers will help in any way find a solution. The only collateral damage I can see is bringing additional hesitation from any potential/future actor/investor. This is yet another delaying tactic. AZ has a long list of difficult problems, unions, mis...

Re: Alitalia near bankruptcy. Will it be saved by Etihad?
According to the Italian press Alitalia lost 600 million Euros in 2016 and is currently losing two million a day. It has enough cash to survive until mid-April. The latest plan, to be put forward at a Board meeting tomorrow, is for 2000 staff laid off, an average 31% cut in salary for the remainder,...

Re: Lufthansa buying the Etihad shares in Air Berlin and Alitalia?
I think a LH-AB tie-up would create a German monopoly that would have problems with the EU competition authorities. There has been talk of a LH-AZ deal for a few weeks. At 05.00 this morning(22.12) AZ got a 180 million Euro bail-out. The new business plan is, yet again, to expand long-haul and reduc...

Re: Alitalia near bankruptcy, to be saved by Etihad
Mamma Mia! It's deja vu again! Alitalia is said to be losing EUR500,000 per day and may have to phase out almost twenty A320-200s while cutting about 2,000 jobs. The decision will be made by the board which will sit soon, maybe this week. Relations between Etihad and the Italian Government are not g...

Re: Alitalia again near bankruptcy
It will probably be a new company, Alitalia number 3, with 51% consisting of the good parts of the present Alitalia-CIA and 49% Etihad cash.
