Re: Kalitta 747-400 Dumping fuel

Compressor stall generates loud bangs, due to reverse air flow in the core engine generated by too high pressure at HP compressor level. If there's multiple bang, it means that it's probably the variable stator vane actuator having a problem and not positioning the stator vanes at the right position...

Either the failure effect of a single failure is minor or major, and there is no initial risk for pax or pilots. Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi - Impact on Boeing 737 MAX

I don't understand how Boeing's chief engineering office has validated this envelope protection system with only 2 AOA sensor's relying on one input to validate exceedance. At contrario, Airbus is using three sensors which required correlation between two of them to validate inputs to Flight control...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi

The other issue in the industry is that many airlines discourage manual flight. Some pilots count way too much on automation and are therefore weak in manual flight skills. Good luck to recover from such a situation (unreliable airspeed + runaway stabilizer) if you basically never fly manually (or ...

Thus it was maybe not a bad decision to continue to Brussels with both engines running normally. They have been very lucky indeed, since the captain opened the crossfeed valve during flig...
