See also the American A300 that crashed in New York late 2001. Same scenario, except that the rudder snapped off.
Once airborne no big kicks in the pedals, my friends...

Re: At least 160 dead in India plane crash
As a sidenote, I don't think it's cultural. Should the same happen anywhere else in the world, one could expect the same type of reaction. What's more "peculiar" here is that authorities (police, military, whatever) doesn't create a perimeter around the plane. Overwhelmed ? Under-trained ?...

Relatives will receive at least 160'000 euros from AIE. Perhaps more if they unleash the lawyers.

Added value = 0
Trajectory accuracy = 0
Informative value = 0
Except for showing off one's AIE livery in Flight Simulator, what's the point of this clip ???? It's very, very, VERY borderline in my opinion.

Re: At least 160 dead in India plane crash
I always find it amazing when local authorities let dozens of bystanders get anywhere near the wreckage. A photo agency even released pics of relatives walking into this mess in t-shirts and sandals. There's blood, body parts and chemicals all over the place!

Re: Afriqiyah Airways Airbus A330 crashes in Tripoli, Libya
Thanks ! Just to make sure I understood, the go-around drill is... - Throttles on TOGA detent - pull up the nose - raise the flaps one notch ...then the engine will spool up, provided all three conditions are met ? If you miss one item the engines will remain at the final approach setting they had b...

Re: Afriqiyah Airways Airbus A330 crashes in Tripoli, Libya
Mmmh, if confirmed this looks like it's going to be another uncomfortable investigation for Airbus engineers. The TAROM A310 near-accident in Paris also comes to mind (the plane almost fell out of the sky while the captain was trying to put the A/P back on to recover the situation). Any Airbus drive...

Re: Afriqiyah Airways Airbus A330 crashes in Tripoli, Libya
Interesting facts on Airbus systems, here... High energy impact on uneven terrain explains the scattering of debris (compared to Turkish 737 which hit with the tail first with a 22°nose-up attitude when it had almost recovered from the stall at 400-500 feet). Reminds of the "accident that never...

Re: Crash in Tripolis, Libya => Airbus A330 of Afriqiyah Air
Probably worth reading... Theories about the disaster focused on a possible technical malfunction or pilot error, or both, just before the A330-200 Airbus was due to touch down. The Afriqiyah Airlines aircraft came down short of the Tripoli runway after a dawn approach in visibility of 6km (less tha...

Re: Crash in Tripolis, Libya => Airbus A330 of Afriqiyah Air
Eye witnesses (i.e., the human brain in general) are known to be poor sources of reliable information. Once in a while we also have reports of relatives who claim they received an SMS/texto from someone on board just before the crash (saying they're in trouble, etc.), but eventually this turns out t...

Thinking out loud here... Ancillary revenues! It's a game-changer in the industry and mostly economical subject (not much about operations).

A well-worth-reading article from StrategicRISK magazine about aircraft and engine makers exchanging safety advice, and the "fight" starting in the UK: http://www.strategicrisk.co.uk/story.asp?source=srbreaknewsRel&storycode=384028 “There are probably 100 to 150 airlines in Europe, som...

One of the biggest mistake the €urocontrol weirdo's made, was not sending up Vulcanic Ash measuring balloons. Are we sure this is part of their mandate? Does it exist? Where can I buy one? :) This is more about meteorology. AFAIK we're not yet in the Single European Sky and therefore... EUROCONTROL...

Re: Flights cancelled due to volcanic ash cloud from Iceland
Or does our government only help out if greedy bankers mess it up themselves, but not if honnest companies are faced with nature's unpredictable play? The irony being of course that if we didn't save the bankers the global economy would have sunk even deeper. Instead of losing 20-30% revenue the ai...

Re: Plane carryin Polish president crashed near Smolensk air
Well, not necessarily... There are a few good reasons to keep quiet: 1. Perhaps the recordings were damaged in the crash and need to be "repaired". 2. Perhaps the recorders didn't work at all (that happens more often than you think). 3. Perhaps the recordings reveal a technical problem tha...

Re: Plane carryin Polish president crashed near Smolensk air
Ever heard of "get-there-itis" or "press-on-itis" ? It's a syndrom many pilots have when they are supposed to complete a very specific mission in a specific timeframe. It's slightly more vicious than pure tunnel vision because of self-induced pressure and stress. They disregard m...
