Re: US drone in Iranian hands

According to a story in Aviation Week, the RQ-170 utilised F-22 technology - no surprise as both were designed by Lockheed. see: http://www.aviationweek.com/aw/generic/story.jsp?id=news/awst/2012/01/02/AW_01_02_2012_p28-409855.xml&headline=F-22 Technology On UAV That Crashed In Iran&channel=...

Lockheed Concept for 6th Gen fighter

see: http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articl ... pt-366533/

Looks similar to the Northrop YF-23 with the canted tails.

Re: US drone in Iranian hands

Yes, "The according responsibility, costs, control, puts a heavy burden on a nation." No argument here and perhaps the world now realizes that the nuclear option is best kept silent unless a nation’s back is really against the wall. I have little doubt that Israel would not hesitate to use...

Unless AP wants to pay large fines, they need to charge the same for each party.

Re: US drone in Iranian hands

It is conceded by many (including Japanese historians) that the US use of the Atom Bomb actually saved lives (in the larger picture). Japan was prepared to fight to the end if invaded and had training school children to use bamboo spears to repel the US soldiers. I have known a numbers of US Army an...

Re: US drone in Iranian hands

The Iranians explained how they did it: they jammed the GPS system, knowing that a drone would go on auto pilot afterwards, and as such the drone landed in Iraq thinking it was Afghanistan. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/12/18/us-official-says-iran-will-find-it-difficult-to-exploit-intel-in-dron...

Re: US drone in Iranian hands

which UN resolution gives the US the right to fly over Iran's (or anybody else's) airspace and conduct spying missions? Reality is that those flights have always existed, almost from the beginning of military aviation. It is not published because it is an embarrasment for the country that is overfl...

Airbus vs. Aviation Partners - winglet patents

I have not seen it covered here, but Airbus is suing Aviation Partners (AP) over AP's patented winglet design. I do not understand the grounds for the suit. In its' filing, Airbus says "[Aviation Partners'] threats are a significant hindrance to Airbus and, without an early resolution, place Ai...

Re: US drone in Iranian hands

We really don't know in what condition the RQ-170 is. Looking at the Iranian pictures, we can see that the bottom is shrouded and the right wing seems a little skewed (broken and patched back together?). We also don't know whether the data was erased or not, not whether the programs in the on-board ...

Example: you can find out in 1 second the chemical composition of the paint. But it doesn't mean you have that paint, or you have any idea how it is applied. Other example: easy to find out if parts are made of Kevlar. But you don't have than immediatly the right manufacturing method. And I wish an...

Re: American Airlines Files For Bankruptcy.

The title of this thread is not totally accurate. AA has not filed for bankruptcy, but has filed for Chapter 11 reorganization, which means the Bankrupcy Court will probably grant them protection against claims from creditors while they reorganize their business. If my memory serves me right, CO, D...

Re: American Airlines Files For Bankruptcy.

Interesting to read are the reasons they give: 1.unfavourable foreign exchange rate ( against which currency? ) 2.high fuel prices ( doesn't that count for everybody?) 3.high labour cost ( AA is well known to be a company that subcontracts a lot of work to companies which do not comply to normal US...

Re: American Airlines Files For Bankruptcy.

As exptected...AA was just preparing for bankruptcy the latest years/months so that they can start over again. If they were "preparing for bankruptcy the latest years/months", why did they wait so long? They've been bleeding cash for years and once it's gone, it's gone - never to be re-co...

Look at this video ,the chute opens very fast.

This appears to be a video of a Harrier ejection, not a Chinese J-7 ejection.

Re: Crash during Chinese airshow

It appears (from reviewing the film clip several times) that the pilot ejected too low for the chute to fully open. The chute seems to be opening when the plane is about 2 fuselage lengths above the ground; I don't beleive that it fuly opened before impact.

Re: AA may be on the verge of bankruptcy?

Some have postulated that AA will be bailed out by the government. I really doubt it considering the current political climate and economy. They will have to save themselves this time.

Actually, there is no need for AA; due to de-regulation, competition is strong.

Re: cuts in western military budgets

There will be a lot of fallout by these cuts. They need to be made due to the global economic situation, but they will be hard on defense contractors, related jobs and R&D expenditures. We (the world) cannot simply maintain current levels of defense spending. But, therein lies a quandary. Develo...

Re: Belgian Defense Minister De Crem in favour of F35 (wikil

Quite a lot of technology also came out of the space program, which for the most part is not funded from the defense budget at all. However, the internet itself started as a DARPA program. But the WWW started as a spare time program at CERN, so depending on your view it was not funded at all, or it...
