Re: SN to Africa - one cancellation per day

When you lease aircraft, you usually lease the engines that go with it. You can lease spare engines but they usually are in the same age category as the aircraft for compatibility reasons. Given the likelihood of FOD in Africa, I don't think that SN leases brand new engines. I also don't think that...

Re: Swissport industrial action at Brussels Airport

Those people don't earn 1600-2000 net. They earn around 1200-1400 net, plus tax credit for supporting a family. Take your rent of 600 euro for a basic and shitty appartment in Schaarbeek out of that and you know what these people are left with. I worked at Zaventem and I saw how these people are ov...

Re: Swissport industrial action at Brussels Airport

I'm sorry, but have to say, I am a bit sickened by some of the responses in this topic. Yes, it is very inconvenient to EVERYBODY involved, but who are you to deny these hard working, underpayed, and dare I say exploited, people their given right to strike? And even worse, portray them as lazy and t...

Re: SN to Africa - one cancellation per day

They buy old aircraft with new engines ? Is that a retorical question...? For one, the affected engine appearantly was on there for less than a week. So a little bit hard to asteblish a relationship with the aircraft regarding its age. Might as well have been a 5 year old engine, but we'll never fi...

Re: SN to Africa - one cancellation per day

it was indeed the same engine that gave troubles in EBB. Just spoke to somebody from flight ops SN and they are looking to fly over a new engine on cargo to EBB...otherwise the bird is simply stuck. I do not understand SN that they keep on buying those old birds, nothing but troubles and just repai...

Re: SN to Africa - one cancellation per day

The point where I don't agree is that the aforementioned factors can't cause an engine to stall. They can cause a sensitive compressor to stall by providing opportunities for unexpected pressure differentials and/or shockwaves. It's not likely but if there are no external factors (like birdstrikes)...

Re: SN to Africa - one cancellation per day

Based on this I can guess if they dropped spare parts or technicians and tools. The latter is probably true, if it really went boom Don't know how to interprid this sentence, but I hope you're not implying, based on the current information, that it was a maintenance error. It could be, but don't dr...

Re: SN to Africa - one cancellation per day

They told us it was engine failure, that's all we were told. But it seems that the captain was returning to Entebbe before the boom happened. The crew must have seen it coming in the engine parameters if they were allready turning around prior to the actual failure. To bad they coudn't make it back...

Re: Maastricht Airport in financial problem

But, of course, Dutch nationalistic pride will probably prevent such a solution dictated by common sense. It won't be down to Dutch national pride, but more Limburg local pride (I doubt many in The Netherlands would care besides those living in Southern Limburg). This is very, very true. Also, the ...

Re: SN to Africa - one cancellation per day

Ok, fair point. And I don't doubt they gave it a lot of thought. But decided on this way in the end. I'm sure they would have not hesitated in bringing in a wetlease if they deemed it the way to go. The thing is, it is not difficult to critisize a descicion like that if you don't know all the role p...

Re: SN to Africa - one cancellation per day

That depends... If it is indeed true the pax were transported by rerouting the remaining flights, why go to the expense of chartering an ad-hoc aircraft...? But, you cannot do that all the time. For one, the loadfactors on the affected flights will have to allow it. SN probably has a book with diffe...

Re: SN to Africa - one cancellation per day

Lets keep Ryanair out of this discussion please. But for what it is worth, aircraft swaps, for various reasons, are daily buisiness at any company. SN is no different.

Re: SN to Africa - one cancellation per day

Mr Inquirer and RTM, you indeed can't keep a spare plane around the clock for the occasional cancellation. But what about a spare engine, special tooling that they always have to take on loan because they don't have their own, and small teams of A330-dedicated staff who can manage engine/APU change...

Re: SN to Africa - one cancellation per day

Ok, thanks. My mistake. But I do know they want to work towards a 7 day per week redendancy. So probably after the introduction of #9... Still a year to go though.

Do you know which days there is no backup?

Re: SN to Africa - one cancellation per day

May I point out that SN actually has a backup almost all off the time... And from june 18 on, every day. There will be an A330 down for mx every day, and this will be available as backup should the need arise. Just a matter of planning some slack into the mx, and don't take them in at the last possi...

Re: SN to Africa - one cancellation per day

Flanker, may I point out to you that obtaining an AML is not something to joke about. The requirements, training and exams are tough, and will take many years to complete. I would like you to try it. You'll see you don't know so much about aircraft afterall. Talking about a humble approach. Ok, not ...

Re: Replacement of Brussels Airlines' Boeing & Avro RJ fleet

If these planes arn't good for any company, why would any company take them? Yet, they are a big succes for the manufacturers... Are they overlooking a point? Or are you? In all fairness, is it more likely that everybody else is wrong? Or just one person? And I am not saying these planes are ideal, ...

Re: SN to Africa - one cancellation per day

To be fair your PR attempt will not help SN, nor is it accurate. SN will see more and more of these issues as their A330 fleet gets older. The age plays a role because a lot of structural and non-structural matters start to see more issues more with age. Corrosion is usually the major issue and no ...

Re: Replacement of Brussels Airlines' Boeing & Avro RJ fleet

If there is an Embraer aircraft that can help SN, it's the Brasilia. Yeah... Very consistand you are... In one topic you give SN a hard time because they fly modern A330's where the oldest is 17 years old, and now you suggest to get an ancient 120 where the youngest flying anywhere in the world is ...
