Quiet day for Nigerian Journalists

No much to put on paper in Lagos yesterday. But God be praised, finally something came out to make front page. From Punch Nigeria : Lagos: 248 escape death in Qatar Airways plane emergency landing September 30, 2012 by Oyetunji Abioye There was palpable fear at the Murtala Muhammed International Air...

Re: Three Ryanair "emergency" landings in Valencia on same d

Did you bother to read the previous posts??? I was there, so know hat I am talking about. . Yes I did, and I wish you'd done it too. From the beginning of this tread, I was interested in gathering facts. Your dogmatic answer is insufficient to quench my thirst of knowledge. I don't know where you w...

@Flaner : Facts please. Where did you get " The Ryanair pilots in this case had more than minimum fuel : How else would they be able to hold 70 minutes at MAD, fly to a second choice and far alternate like VLC, hold again for 30 minutes at VLC before they landed .." Did they hold at MAD? D...

Re: Three Ryanair "emergency" landings in Valencia on same d

Remember the "You don't talk if you don't know?" Where can I find the factual information that could shed some light on this and get out of the emotional reactions? I read that according to one member they "stayed in the air almost 3 hours beyond their trip time". Interesting? Ye...

Sean was that you piloting that plane? :P Captain on that plane was a woman. She is still a woman, but not sure she's still in the LHS. ;) H.A. That's quite a sexist remark, doesn't matter if it was a man or a woman. Earth, if you were trying to be funny, I have to words for you: Ha. Ha. Sean I, no...

Re: "kulula's official ridiculously posh new boeing launch".

Is it me or I heard about these FA jokes +10 years back at Southwest Airlines? IIRW Southwest even supported these deviations from standard safety announcement in the hope to get Pax attentions and awarded a $100 check every month to the FA having cracked the best one. Think I've seen them all above...

Re: Tarmac melts , plane gets stuck

Yes, air temp. But tarmac is also called "blacktop". Pavement temp could well be in excess of 70°C and this, on a soft spot, could lead to a glue-like pond. Think of walking on a roof covered with Derbigum. (Well, this mental image has another meaning in South of France compared with the n...

Re: Solar Impulse flying South

Though technically they could have continued flying South to return to Payerne (but that would have been heck of a flight :D ), Solar Impulse will force us to amend the title of this post : Solar Impluse flying NORTH,as from tomorrow, taking off from Ouarzazate around 0500z heading to Rabat where HB...

Re: Solar Impulse flying South

Solar Impulse currently flying at FL300 ! She is flying a tight pattern SW of RAK, Marrakesh, in what may be called a thermal pump. Actually the OAT is "only" -26°C which is rather "warm" at that altitude. The idea is to gather a lot of potential energy in order to preserve the b...

Hi Stij, For once I will have to disagree with you. The A Pier at BRU was no small project. It was much more than “just a few gates and shops” with its 750 m long and 31 contact gates with boarding bridges. Agreed, the A Pier did not include a main terminal building with check-in facilities but the ...

Things are not developping as planned. Headwinds much stronger than anticipated. With a heading of 220-230, her track is ... 090° ! Actually flying backward at moments, bringing the Solar Impulse in the same aircraft category as ... the Harrier ! With such a speed let's hope S.I. doesn't join the A1...

S.I. just crossed the Spanish border. Due to bad Wx (CBs) Luc Trullemans re-routed her somewhat more to the West towards Tarbes. After overflying the Pyrenees close to FL280, actually 8400m, S.I. is now heading on 220 straight towards Madrid where she should arrive around 2310LT but will be on a hol...
