Re: Ryanair CEO latest interview + EK reportage

Who takes a flight that is not convenient? For all the people I know, no one .... Nobody forces those 79 million to fly Ryanair, they take it because it is convenient for them. It is always a matter of cost versus convenience. You seem to have a very strange idea of which side of that scale Ryanair...

Re: Ryanair CEO latest interview + EK reportage

Ryanair's route network, schedule and pricing is simply incompatible with my travel needs.

Also, how many of those 79.300.000 passengers took their Ryanair flight exactly when it was most convenient for them, and exactly from and to the airports which were most convenient for them?

Hardly any.

Re: Ryanair CEO latest interview + EK reportage

In the Netherlands Albert Heijn has handheld self-scan scanners in most of their stores. This is a huge advantage over Lidl: worst case you have to wait a minute if all of the payment terminals are in use. (Also I never noticed any significant difference in cash register speed between Lidl and other...

Re: Solar Impulse to fly US coast-to-coast in 2013

An A380's take-off run at MTOW would take on average almost 24MW. (i.e., to accelerate 560 tons from 0 to 280 km/h in a distance of 2750m) The wing area of an A380 is 845 square meters. The average solar constant is 1366 Watt per square meter. Covering the wings of an A380 with solar panels thus wou...

Re: Airbus A350 news

Since many (if not most?) parts of the plane (by number, not necessarily by weight or size) are churned out by other manufacturers, located all over the world, it is hard to tell where a plane really comes from. Therefore any nationalistic-feelings-based preference for one or the other manufacturer ...

Re: "Airliner six kilometres off course due iPhone interfere

My question would rather be, was the interference from the radio part of the iPhone, or was it in flight mode and did the interference come from another part of the device? If it was the radio part, was it the cellular radio? The WiFi? Bluetooth? NFC (if the iPhone has that)?

Re: Industry is considering airliners with one pilot.

You might end up with pilots on the plane doing nothing and getting paid almost nothing, and only getting laid if they actually have to do something. Then you'll get the same issues as with the soyuz auto-dock system which mysteriously malfunctions all the time, necessitating a manual docking (for w...

Re: Airbus A350 news

IMNSHO the nose is much nicer than the A330/A340 nose.

Of course, the black paint around the cockpit windows adds to the looks. I wonder what the plane would look like in a livery with no special colors around the cockpit windows.

Re: Pilot locked out, emergency landing at Bhopal

Well they should make the doors in such a way that it is very easy to open them from the inside if the lock mechanism malfunctions. I am not sure how the door hinges are protected.

They seem to have gotten rid of the upward sloping windows at the rear of the plane, as compared to the A330 series?

Yes imagine being woken with coffee/breakfast after a long night flight, and seeing him.

You won't need that coffee to wake up then.

Re: Airlines vs Passengers: 5 Recent Incidents That Have Res

That's the weird thing about point three... an airline employee didn't following the company rules and then decides to sue his own employer. Sounds like such a weird move? It would appear they were not airline employees, but were using airline employee buddy cards. It would be the duty of the airli...

Re: Airlines vs Passengers: 5 Recent Incidents That Have Res

1) Virgin does seem a bit unaccomodating in this case. And calling the cops for improper bathroom use? What?? 2) This one is not really newsworthy. 3) Always easy to use the discrimination card. The airline has a strict dress code for passengers using airline employee free ride cards. Apparently nob...
