Oh well ... this report was already written by the surviving brother the day after the funeral ..
Well Poland is making themselves ridiculous (me think) .. and I like this country having many friends there !

Re: Alitalia near bankruptcy. Can it be saved?
Not sure I favour a LH take over .. seeing what they are doing with SN I would be very cautious indeed regarding such a scenario ...
I still think the AF/KL bid makes more sense.
Surprised and disappointed TK showed no interest ...

Sell to IAG at whatever price .. Really ? I will believe that when I see it. While there are problems, I don't see the outcome that way (for the time being at least) It's too premature IMHO. ... Quoting the bloomberg press release : 'IAG could also “wait for Norwegian to go bankrupt, if this is inde...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2018
Thank you André for the Paris-Match link but I don't have the courage to read it through. The excerpts you quote are sufficient to understand there is nothing special. He is just blowing his own whistle. What else to expect from ED ? This man has proved his long time incompetence in the air transpor...

Re: Air Belgium in 2018
Let's summarize : http://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/economy/article/2136703/mystery-hong-kong-investors-bet-low-cost-start-carrier-air I am not sure the A340-300 is the gaz guzzler they say .. As being mentioned, without feeding flights they might have trouble filling their plane. Also they don't m...

Re: Lufthansa in 2018
@Ansett : It's no more a secret, the Gustin case has lifted many ambiguities that could still subsist .. quite disgraceful of LH. Under the helm of CS it seems indeed decided that SN may/will not operate from bru as a hub à la LX or OS. -- Obviously the merger deal approved by the Belgian side was o...

About lh's new livery .. It seems they decided to modify it again, but just the colour which will be plain blue (io the dark black-ish colour à la NZ) The resemblance with the LOT livery is less obvious now with the new colour, it seems overall better than instance 1. However I think it would look e...

Re: Berlin Brandenburg New Airport (BER) - opening in 2021
When comparing the BER project with IGA, I tell myself they should ask the Turks to complete the job. Incompetence at its highest level. .. Data from wikipedia : IGA : May 2013: tender awarded May 2015: construction commencement December 2018: Commercial Operations commence "As of February 2018...

Let's try, all of us, to just focus on the facts instead of acting out emotionally.
Today was a great lesson.

Wow wow ...
"I’m personally convinced more orders will follow Emirates’ example and that this great aircraft will be built well into the 2030s.” (John Leahy, today)
May God (and the airline industry) hear him !

Re: Airbus A380 news
EK lost much of their credit in Toulouse when they cancelled the A350 order a few years back. Opting in 2017 for the B787 (instead of the A350) put on definite hold any possible or costly development of the A380 EK would wish for. It would need a miracle to save it now. I will feel sorry when they s...

Re: Alitalia near bankruptcy. Can it be saved?
Another important difference is that BRU has almost no traffic to 3 major EU airports: London (before the high speed trains I remember there were 1.35 million pax between BRU-London each year), Paris and Amsterdam, simply because we are very close. This are 'trunk' roads for many other airports, ma...

Re: Alitalia near bankruptcy. Can it be saved?
On the other hand the CEO of SN said in an interview in a newspaper (don't remember which one that was) that they aim at having at least 40-50% O&D, even on long haul. That is the difference. Finally VIE is better located geographically to channel pax towards the East. BRU will never be able to...

Re: Alitalia near bankruptcy. Can it be saved?
Ok I suppose this is not the appropriate thread to compare bru and vie ito hub ops ? (I know I played a part in this discussion). All I was saying is that there is room for improvement at bru's side, the potential is there, hoping it will reach the "good" ears ? Indeed I would appreciate t...

Re: Alitalia near bankruptcy. Can it be saved?
To my knowledge, AZ dropped NBO and JNB long ago, also LOS and ACC were dropped but more recently so ... To Middle-East they have more weight than VIE or ZRH to places like CAI, AMM, IKA, BEY, ALG, CMN, TUN , etc none of which are currently served by LX to my knowledge. In my view they should overwe...

Re: Alitalia near bankruptcy. Can it be saved?
They said FCO would be their 5th 'major hub' (after FRA, MUC, ZRH, VIE - yes unfortunately even compared to VIE, BRU is not as much of a hub as the others...), so normally a hub focussed operation. In terms of long haul I assume something in between VIE and ZRH ('main routes' + some more niche type...

Re: Alitalia near bankruptcy. Can it be saved?
I suspect it might end up as a scenario similar to the AB bankrupty, only a part of the operation being taken over by lh. If they want to operate as a hub, the intra-italian sub-network from fco should somehow be kept .. Outside fco, EW might take the operation over. I am surprised AF/KL dropped the...

Re: Airbus A330/A330neo news
I don't think there is a future for the A330-800. I think Airbus should not produce the -800 (even at a very low production cost as predicted) and develop a A330-1000 version instead, featuring a longer fuselage (at least similar to that of the A 340-500) at the cost of a shorter range ... A bit lik...
